Family Traveller Reviews: Royal Hideaway Corales Suites, Tenerife

Down on the beach of Costa Adeje sits a quaint, traditional fishing village called La Caleta. Home to numerous restaurants and bars serving caught-that-morning fresh seafood and Spanish wines, and cute little shops full of handmade goods, it’s a good spot for locals and tourists alike looking to get away from the hustle and bustle. It’s a great place to cycle or walk, enjoy the sea breeze and get a taste of local culture. Behind the picturesque seaside town, a little further up the hill, sits a curvaceous white building which is home to the Royal Hideaway Corales Suites – a family-friendly hotel – and Royal Hideaway Corales Beach – an adjoining adults-only option – opened in February 2018.

The resort is bold and modern both inside and out yet the design feels classic and oozes sophistication, reflecting the colours of the Mediterranean with calm blues and striking whites. Plus, it seems that everywhere you turn at Royal Hideaway Corales Suites, you can see the ocean which is a surefire way to get into the holiday mindset. Head into the lobby of the Corales Suites building, however, and you’re transported into an underground world with exposed rock and a stunning 3D projection that’s impressive for parents and kids alike. It feels like the start of a big adventure.

The suites

Size matters when you’re travelling with kids, whether they’re four or 14, and these suites over-deliver. All options from the Deluxe Suite to the extravagant 2 bedroom Villa Suite With Pool, offer spacious living, dining and kitchen areas (yes! Your own fully functional kitchen!) so that you won’t get under each other’s feet. Whether you choose a suite option with a private pool or not, you’ll have your own terrace to ensure plenty of opportunity to enjoy the warm Tenerife evenings. With every single room and suite in the whole resort facing the ocean, you can looking forward to stunning views across the deep blue water from your new home every day and colourful Spanish sunsets every evening.

Activities and facilities

There’s plenty for grown-ups and little ones to do in and around the resort. In addition to a glorious, heated, outdoor swimming pool for families to enjoy – always a hit – there’s also an innovative kids club called Happy Minds to engage little ones, plus a Teen Club for the older children. The principles behind their kids clubs go beyond the normal ‘entertainment’ and look to teach and stimulate young minds, whether they’re into the arts, sciences, puzzles or outdoors.

If you’re looking for some alone time with your significant other, take part in a wellness programme such as yoga or pilates or get active in wide range of sports, or take a look at one of their culinary or cultural workshops. If it’s pampering you’re after, there’s a really beautiful spa in the resort with a huge menu of treatments on offer and a steam room, sauna, heated jet pool and relaxation room to have indulge in.

In the area

Although you’ll find more than enough to do in the resort, and in La Caleta just a few minutes walk away, head further afield and you’ll find plenty of outfits offering water sports, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Teide National Park, the Costa Adeje Golf Course and more. However, for an unforgettable family experience, the area is great for dolphin and whale watching. Hire a boat or take an expert guided tour from one of the many charter companies in the nearby port, like White Tenerife, who can take you for a half- or full-day out on the seas. They know the best places to spot wildlife and can pack you a picnic and drinks to enjoy on the deck of your very own boat under the Tenerife sun.

Dining

The food at Royal Hideaway Corales is phenomenal. Although a couple of options are adult-only (and definitely worth investigating if you’re taking advantage of babysitting services for the evening!), each dining option for families has its own vibe. Whether you want a fresh alfresco seafood lunch at Starfish, Mediterranean dishes and local products at Olivia or classic Italian fare at Il Bocconcino di Olivia, there are plenty of options to please all palates.

For a really unique family dinner, book the Chef in Room experience. Don your brand new personalised chef’s aprons and join one of the resort’s experienced chefs in your private suite as they guide you through cooking up a delicious Canarian dish that you can take home and impress friends with, before sitting down to of a bespoke tasting menu (with a selection of accompanying Canary Island wines for the grown ups).
