A 10 min drive from the iconic Old Town and just five minutes’ walk to the beach, Valamar Tirena Hotel is the perfect base for families looking for both a beach holiday and a Dubrovnik city break.

The hotel is filled with boundless experiences, but just wait till you see the new Maro World kids entertainment centre which is the heart and soul of this amazing resort, at least as far as kids are concerned.

Catering to families with kids of all ages, Valamar Tirena Hotel hits the nail on the head with  amenities and activities tailored to engage every member of the family, especially young adventurers.

Discover new Maro World at Valamar Tirena Hotel

The main attraction at this hotel is definitely the new Maro World centre.

Let’s not forget the trampolining roof top with disco lights and music, as well as a live theatre with performances and workshops for everyone to enjoy. And that’s not half of what they have to offer.

Although one of the best things for families has to be the fact that it’s all completely free to use. Use it for family time together or as a supervised kids’ club when you need a few hours to yourself. You can come and go throughout the day and evening as you please, and really the only issue we had was trying to tear our kids away.

Beyond Maro World, Valamar Tirena Hotel also offers a wide range of family-friendly facilities and experiences.

The large family pool is equipped with cushions and toys which were a huge hit with our girls. However, being younger, they spent most of their time in the toddler pool which was shaded and had a tiny slide and toys to match. But families with kids of any age will be pleased to know both pools sit alongside The Oliva Grill which serves delicious lunches, not to mention great ice cream.

The main restaurant is Mediterraneo, offers buffet-style breakfast and dinner  showcasing the rich flavours of the Mediterranean. However, the diverse menu also caters to various tastes and dietary preferences, ensuring a family-friendly dining experience, even for the youngest members of the family. There are also plenty of alfresco seating options which are amazing on warm evenings.

Spacious and comfortable family suites, made up of two connecting double rooms  ensured everyone enjoyed a peaceful night’s rest after a day brimming with excitement. And thoughtful touches like kids’ shower gel, soap, shampoo, cups, games and colouring sets made the rooms feel like a home away from home.

We loved the balance of easy beach holiday and urban adventure

If you are looking to get out and about on this Dubrovnik city break, the Valamar Tirena Hotel is a perfect distance from both the beach and the historic centre.

A short walk through the grounds will lead you down to the main beach which is quite busy. However, stroll a little further along the coast and you’ll come to a quiet pebble beach with plenty of shade for kids and an extremely cute boho seafood restaurant. They do charge for sun loungers here, but we were fully prepared with our towels and spent a brilliant afternoon looking for crabs.

A five min drive in the opposite direction brings you to Dubrovnik Old Town, the world famous heart of the city, where you can walk round the historic walls, explore charming streets and count the Game of Thrones’ landmarks: Dubrovnik doubled for King’s Landing in the HBO show.

Overall, Valamar Tirena Hotel stands makes a great base for families who like the idea of dipping in and out of a Dubrovnik city break, as well as making the most of the Croatian beach weather and having entertainment on tap thanks to family pools and the all-round endless entertainment of Maro World. We made some wonderful memories and will certainly be going back to make more very soon.
