Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort, in Portugal’s Algarve, is Tivoli Hotels & Resorts’ first new all-inclusive property. Now it’s open, what can families expect there?
Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort is open for business this summer after the Algarve hotel launched as an all-inclusive resort in April, packed with exciting opportunities for parents and kids alike.
The revamped property, spread over 27.5 acres, is Tivoli Hotels & Resorts’ fifth resort in the Portuguese coastal hotspot and the company’s first all-inclusive offering.
Located next to the picturesque village of Alvor and close to the city of Portimão, the all-inclusive hotel doesn’t just offer kids clubs, wellness and a whopping five swimming pools (to name just a few highlights) but also access to some of the best local restaurants and theme parks!
Let’s take a dive into what families can enjoy at the new Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort.
Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort kids’ club
Children between four and 12 years old can escape the parents at Pluma Junior Club, where fun-filled facilities include a swimming pool with slides, a games room, a children’s playground and mini golf.
There’s a daily entertainment programme, too, brimming with games and challenges – all managed by a team of childcare experts.
Meanwhile teenagers can be kept busy with football, padel or tennis as well as a host of daily activities prepared specially for older kids.
Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort dining
No going hungry here – guests can graze throughout the day thanks to four restaurants and two bars.
Families will relish The Essenze restaurant; home to a buffet of international cuisine it’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There’s a lovely indoor area and a terrace as well, so you can take your pick of feasting spots.
Come dinner time there are three additional restaurants available by reservation if you fancy a change. We suspect Carosello with its Italian-inspired menu will be a hit with the kids – tuck into pasta and pizza, with a mix of buffet and à la carte service.
Elsewhere there’s steakhouse Roastic and also Mad Med which offers fresh Mediterranean flavours – dine here for local seafood as well as high-quality organic ingredients!
Got those mid-afternoon cravings? Holidaymakers of all ages can snack at any time – poolside joint Salty Bar serves up light meals and drinks, while Shore! Bar is the place for evening entertainment and cocktails.
However, in an exciting twist, guests aren’t just limited to the Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort property itself when it comes to food and drink.
Tivoli also offers the choice of dinner at a selection of popular local restaurants at no extra cost; they just have to be booked 72 hours in advance (and are subject to availability) – perfect for introducing the little ones to Portuguese cuisine and making sure you get out and about!
These included nearby eateries comprise: Restinga Praia (Praia do Alvor); the Àbabuja (Ribeira de Alvor); Jardim das Oliveiras (Monchique) and T-Bone Steakhouse (NH Marina Portimão).
You can also dine at sister hotels within the all-inclusive package. These include, Sky Bar Carvoeiro and The One Restaurant (both at Tivoli Carvoeiro), as well as Pepper’s Steakhouse, Oregano Restaurant and Purobeach Vilamoura (all located at Tivoli Marina Vilamoura).
Resort entertainment
There’s no end of opportunities to don your swimmers and pop on the armbands here. Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort boasts five outdoor pools (one for adults only, three for families and one for children) and even one indoor pool.
If you want to keep up your fitness while away, hit the hotel gym or treat yourself to some R&R while the little ones are busy in the kids’ club and hit up the Wellness Centre where you’ll find a Turkish bath, saunas and spa treatments.
As with the above dining perks, included entertainment doesn’t stop when you leave the resort. No matter which all-inclusive option you choose (more below), you and the family will able to discover the best of the destination.
This includes access to a choice of local theme parks for one day per person (with a minimum stay of seven nights). Take your pick from Zoo Marine (think waterpark, rides and animal preservation programmes), Slide & Splash waterpark or Lagos Zoo: a natural sanctuary for animals.
There are several golf courses nearby too if that takes your fancy. Or perhaps you just want to check out the local sandy beaches and mooch around Alvor village? The resort offers a regular free miniature train transfer exclusively for guests!
In Alvor, you can expect whitewashed houses, cobbled streets and fishing boats moored along the banks of the Alvor River, while for more action there’s the city of Portimão with its museum, marina and nightlife.
Adventure and action more your family’s style? Explore the local caves near Portimão and Lagos, such as the Benagil cave or the cliffs of Ponta da Piedade.
