Summer mountains are big on family travel radars for 2024, and Feuerstein Nature Family Resort will get you and your kids high on nature in the beautiful South Tyrol’s majestic alpine world this year.
In the middle of nature, the Feuerstein is all about families
The Feuerstein lets nature, and the playful minds of children, set the agenda. They have the perfect setting for it: a magical alpine world of forests, waterfalls, meadows and towering mountain peaks at the head of the Pflerschtal valley, in the South Tyrolean Alps. This low-built, wood and stone 5-star family resort is all about promoting the harmony of its setting, giving kids the space to develop and relax. With up to 70 hours per week of Montessori, nature-based childcare on offer, you’ll soon be relaxing too.
A children’s world for year-round natural fun at The Feuerstein
The indoor children’s world at the Feuerstein is focused on nature, creating play spaces which are the opposite of colourful plastics and artificial noise. There’s a play barn with real hay, a wood workshop with proper wood, and a giant sandpit. Outside, you’ll find a playground with slackline and mountain views, bathing pond, bungee trampoline, football pitch, mini-mountains to inspire budding mountaineers, treehouses and climbing stones. There’s also an equestrian centre and petting zoo, with riding lessons and pony wellness available for kids (and adults) ages 3 and upwards.
The Kingdom for Children is a wholesome joy
Billed a Kingdom for Children, the kids’ spaces are wholesome and thoroughly right, a perfect distraction from modern life. This is a place where they can broaden their horizons, feel seen, listened to, and indulged in all the best ways. Teens don’t get neglected either – the Teenie Room is a space for kids of 11+ to do their own thing, which may include hanging out, laughing and playing or just chilling with a book in the corner.
Childcare tailored to every age from tinies to teens
With the resort’s Montessori trained childcare specialists catering from 0-16 years, your kids will be guided through a range of nature-based activities with the Alps as their playground. Activities are grouped according to the appropriate ages, so your teens get adrenaline adventure, while youngsters are nurtured through play. Workshops, waterfall walks, nutritious food, and much more help to make up the childcare programme. Babies and toddlers have a creche provision, so you’ll still get time out.
Parent/child time scheduled daily built into the Montessori schedule
In the late afternoons, families can participate together in parent-child time – such as making woodcraft in the wood workshop, creating art in the painting studio, or getting competitive in the sports arena.
A mountain spa experience for all the family
A spa where the kids can get involved? Sounds refreshing, and the Feuerstein’s 3,000 m² Mountain Spa is a place for everyone – offering not only relaxation and wellbeing, but plenty of fun and action. The family spa area features four heated pools, including an infinity pool, as well as speed waterslides, and a ‘snoezelen’ room for relaxation.
The Adults Only area provides plenty of me-time potential: with four saunas, a rooftop terrace with whirlpool, treatments including soothing massages, and a range of spa treatments. Inclusive and relaxing is how they do it here, and we like it.
Plenty of time for adults whilst the kids are living the dream
Whilst the kids are having the time of their lives in the nature-based Montessori childcare provision, adults get their own playground to indulge themselves. The spa provides a relaxing haven, with access to a wide range of fitness activities including yoga and pilates.
South Tyrol is a renowned wine region, and a tasting in the Feuerstein’s wine cellar could be the perfect way to unwind whilst learning more about the local grapes. Another distinctly high brow experience, in the most relaxing way, is dinner at Artifex. With only 4 tables, the concept combines South Tyrolean traditions and ingredients with culinary influences from all over the world. Choose between a 5 or 8-course menu to discover some old classics turned into creative delicacies.
Chic chalet comforts catering to every kind of family
With sophisticated decor and slick but cosy wooden interiors, rooms at the Feuerstein cover all bases. There are doubles (for 1-4 guests), family rooms (for up to 5) and family suites or chalets for up to 6. If you’re feeling fabulous, Penthouse Suite Azurit has a mountain view balcony, master bedroom, children’s bedroom with bunk beds, living room with kitchenette and a private Finnish sauna.
Discover the South Tyrolean Alps with The Feuerstein as your luxurious base camp
Families may find everything they need at the resort and in the nearby meadows, but hopefully you’ll still get time to immerse yourself in the power of the Alps and enjoy the beauty all around the Feuerstein. There are several cable cars to take you up and down the surrounding summer alpine landscape: the Ladurns cable car, the Rosskopf/Monte Cavallo cable car and the Ratschings/Racines cable car, leading to hiking trails and the recreational landscape. As a guest of the Feuerstein you’ll receive a guest pass (Gossensass) entitling you to free public transport and discounts on the cable cars.
- Hiking – there are a number of trails, ranging from 1.5-6 hours duration. Try a waterfall trail or valley walk; more adventurous families can venture on one of the longer trails to the various mountain huts around the Pflerschtal valley. There are also guided tours for hiking groups.
- Biking – bike trails to the mountain huts and the Sandjöchl mountain pass/Sattelberg mountain will be an alpine adventure to put the wind in your sails and the sun on your face.
