Like a fairy tale, The Ice Village in Tomamu Hokkaido only appears in winter and even then, only at night. And just like a fairy tale, it’s made for children – and parents too.
Slide all the way into The Ice Village
Hop on the ice slide at the observation deck and slide all the way into town. It’s free and there’s a smaller side just for children. Is this the coolest ski resort fun this winter?
Ice skating at Tomamu Hokkaido
There’s nothing like a natural ice rink and this one has been created by nothing but the freezing Hokkaido weather. The views are stunning and you can hire skates so anyone can take a spin on the ice.
Make frosty art at the Ice Atelier
Bring your children to the Ice Atelier and make original frozen art like ice glasses and ice soap bubbles that transform into crystals when they freeze.
Zipline over the ice – together
This winter’s zipline at Tomamu glides from the Ice Village observation deck right across the skating. And the real big news for families is that twin harnesses are now available so you and your kids can zip together.
Catch a cool movie for free
Best ever outdoor movie experience, even the seats are ice sculptures. The screen is ice too and the movies are short, so you don’t get too cold. Pick up popcorn and drinks at the Ice Village store.
Try an ice bowl at Ice Ramen
Hokkaido’s popular Ice Ramen Restaurant arrives at the Ice Village this winter. Try icy Naruto ramen for a wild texture journey.
Drop into the Ice General Store
Even kids who don’t like to shop (all kids) will love the Ice General Store. Even the shelves are carved out of ice and there are so many cute things on them from sweet Ice Village mugs to crafts and accessories.
Check into the Ice Hotel
The ultimate ice experience has to be an overnight stay at the Ice Hotel in the heart of the Ice Village. Made from a single piece of seamless ice, even the walls and ceilings are frozen. But don’t fear, guests have super cosy sleeping bags so they’re warm and comfortable all night long.
Opens 20 January to 29 February 2024
If the Ice Hotel sounds too chilly for kids, Tomamu features two fantastic resort hotels with great deals for families this winter.
