Riviera Nayarit – Family Vacation Guide

Golden sand, palm trees, the glistening Pacific Ocean, and all the Mexican food you can eat. What’s not to love about a vacation to the coastal towns of Riviera Nayarit?

Why Go to Riviera Nayarit

  • A True Sense of Place

Puerto Vallarta’s bustling city and crowded resorts have led to the growth of a newer destination on Mexico’s Pacific Coast. Just north of Puerto Vallarta awaits Riviera Nayarit, where small towns remain relatively untouched by tourism and provide a truer sense of place when showing your kids Mexico.

  • Beautiful Resorts

The expansive beachfront is not filled with resorts, instead housing a few, top-brand places where your family may enjoy a quiet hideaway.

Where to Go and Stay in Riviera Nayarit

Nuevo Vallarta

Just north of Puerto Vallarta is the beginnings of Riviera Nayarit. Neuvo Vallarta is a sprawling area of golf courses, gated communities and fine dining. It’s less crowed that Puerto Vallarta, but still a more traditional vacation destination, for families who want to stay close to the action. You will find all-inclusive properties such as Grand Velas in this area.

What Do and See in Riviera Nayarit

In this secluded next of the woods, most families stay put on their resorts and enjoy the quality time together. However, if you’re looking to explore, visit Sayulita and explore its many colorful and local shops and restaurants. Excursions into the Pacific are highly worth the time, as whales migrate to the waters in the winter months and you will often spot many breeching from numerous boat tours.

If your kids are older, visit the Marietas Islands, one of Jacques Cousteau’s favorite places. The islands are a haven for sea turtles, dolphins and blue-footed boobies, and your family can kayak, snorkel and swim through a cave to reach a hidden beach.

Getting Around with Kids in Riviera Nayarit

Properties in Riviera Nayarit often provide transfers to and from the airport, and because the location can be a bit more remote than other Mexican travel destinations, renting a car may prove to be a bit troublesome. Let your resort take care of any transfers you may need.
