Last updated 17th December 2019

Why Stay

If you’re looking for a family adventure that gets you off the beaten path and into the wild, look no further than Belize. And the San Ignacio Resort Hotel is the perfect home base for enjoying all the mainland has to offer.

Known as “the only jungle in town” the resort serves up the best of two worlds. Set in the town of San Ignacio, families can explore the local culture at nearby markets and Mayan ruins and eat their way through an array of restaurants, while also having access to the pristine jungle that’s just steps from the rooms. Kids and parents will love the on-property pool and tennis court and morning bedroom views include toucans and iguanas set against a stunning tropical forest backdrop.

Specifically for Kids

Kids can explore the natural landscape and unleash their inner jungle animal on daily walks through the wilderness led by fun and knowledgable guides. Learn about the wildlife on a morning bird walk, or get acquainted with the local fauna on a medicinal trail walk that will teach you everything from which trees you definitely don’t want to touch, to natural remedies in case you do.

Young visitors will also delight in taking part in The Green Iguana Conservation Project, located on the property. Kids get up-close interactions with the iguanas while also learning about the animals and the conservation efforts behind saving them.

The resort will also help set up tours for families and it makes exploring Belize and all it has to offer easy and enjoyable. Choose from high-flying and exciting adventures like cave tubing, ziplining, repelling and canoeing. Or, seek out the vast and varied histories that mix in this unique region. From a Mennonite community tour to a day trip to Tikal, the largest Maya ruin site in the world, there’s no shortage of culture waiting to be explored.

Room Types for Families

San Ignacio Resort boasts many options perfect for families of every size. Their standard rooms accommodate up to four people and the new Master Suite has a pullout queen couch in addition to the king-size canopy bed.

The aptly named Family Room is ideal for bigger families or those looking for a little more space. It contains a queen and double bed in the main bedroom, a sitting area with a pull out couch plus a separate sleeping area with a single. Not to mention the massive deck with stunning panoramic views.

The new Royal Suite also offers extra space for families with two separate bedrooms and bathrooms so kids and parents can have a little extra privacy and get that much-coveted alone time for relaxing. Plus, mom can enjoy a nice soak in the balcony Jacuzzi tub while the kids splash in the pool below.

Dining Options

The Running W Steakhouse & Restaurant is San Ignacio Resort’s all-day dining restaurant. Serving up fresh and delicious meals the restaurant is also a family affair: all the meat featured on the menu comes from the local family ranch. The resort’s proximity to the town also means that guests have easy access to an abundance of restaurants in San Ignacio. Pro tip: try out local favorites Ko-Ox Han Nah and Crave House of Flavors.
