Hotels Taking Interactive Cultural Experiences to the Next Level

Last updated 22nd August 2018

The opportunity to get a taste of different cultures is one of the most meaningful aspects of traveling with kids. These five properties around the world are taking hands-on experiences one step beyond by allowing kids to immerse themselves into the native culture.

Four Seasons Oahu

Oahu’s western coastline is home to revered cultural storytellers, artisans, crafters and some of Hawaii’s most fascinating living legends. Voyage into Hawaiian customs through bamboo wood carving, haku lei making, lauhala weaving, ancient healing practices and sarong dying, all part of the new #FSWayfinders program at the Four Seasons Oahu.

Capella Marigot Bay Resort & Marina

Island rhythms come to life at Capella Marigot Bay Resort & Marina with shak shaks, handcrafted using the seeds of St. Lucia’s national tree. Zando’s Activity Program is available every day for kids to enjoy arts and crafts, nature walks, dance and storytelling.

Al Gelso Bianco

Nothing says Italy like pasta, and at Tuscan agriturismo Al Gelso Bianco, children and their families learn to make homemade tagliatelle ravioli and gnocchi alongside the farm’s owner. If the season allows, children can harvest the vegetables directly from the garden. Visiting the animal farm and horse riding are also available.

Grand Velas Riviera

Explore ancient Yucatán history at Grand Velas Riviera Maya by designing a colorful dreamcatcher called a Huichol Eye. Families can also swim with dolphins, explore the coastline on a guided kayak tour and get up close and personal with the coral reef on a snorkeling tour.

Inkaterra Machu Picchu

At Inkaterra Machu Picchu, kids can take tea from plant to cup during a visit to the on-site plantation. Families can also walk along the hotel’s trails and discover the fascinating yet fragile ecosystem of the Machu Picchu cloud forest while learning about its many indigenous plants and animals.
