St. Louis Arch Unveiling New Look

Last updated 15th May 2018

St. Louis’ iconic Gateway Arch serves as the gateway from the east to the west at the Mississippi River and is a symbol synonymous with America. With thousands flocking to see the Arch, the visitor center and museum has been undergoing a renovation to offer more history and depth to a visit.

The $176-million project includes 150,000 square feet of renovation work to the museum and visitor center, with the addition of 46,000 square feet of multi-level space of galleries. Guests will find exhibits on Colonial St. Louis, Manifest Destiny, history of the riverfront life and steamboats, and the history of the Gateway Arch. You can even experience the top of the Arch from the museum through a live webcam from the observation deck.

The improvements are part of the larger $380-million CityArchRiver project, which includes a new pedestrian bridge over I-44 between downtown and the new west facing entrance of the museum. The improved museum and visitor center reopens on July 3, 2018. The museum will be free to all visitors.
