On October 6, the brand new National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey will open its doors to visitors. Located in the heart of Times Square in New York, the first-of-its-kind experience is an immersive journey that takes guests “underwater” on a virtual tour across the Pacific Ocean. SPE Partners joined forces with a team of Academy, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning artists (including the visual effects team behind Game of Thrones) to create a truly breathtaking visual voyage.
Visitors will come face-to-face with dolphins, rays and a 50-foot-long humpback whale in a 3D experience, get lost in a kelp maze, learn about Humboldt squid (or the red devil as they are sometimes known), interact with on-screen sea lions and much more. This digital “underwater” dive is both thrilling and educational and takes roughly 90 minutes to experience from start to finish. Filled with jaw-dropping moments, kids and adults alike will be gasping in astonishment as sharks glide by mere inches away.
The encounter is open Sunday through Thursday, 10 am to 10:30 pm and Friday-Saturday, 10 am to midnight. Tickets start at $39.50 for adults and $32.50 for children (age 12 and under) and can be purchased online in advance. A portion of the proceeds from all tickets go towards National Geographic Society’s nonprofit work in conservation, exploration, research and education.
