Mickey and Minnie Are Finally Getting Their First Disney Attraction Ever Opening in March

Last updated 5th December 2019

It may be hard to believe, but Mickey and Minnie have never had their very own attraction at the Disney Parks. But that’s about to change! The announcement of the new attraction came from the chairman of Disney Parks, Bob Chapek at a special presentation December 3, 2019 at Walt Disney World. Mark your calendars now because you won’t want to miss this. The official opening date for the brand new Mickey and Minnie’s Runway Railway attraction is set for March 4, 2020 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, one of the theme parks at Walt Disney World. The attraction will also be coming to Disneyland in 2022.

The attraction is inspired by the Mickey and Minnie Mouse short movies airing on the Disney Channel, online and in the  Mickey Shorts Theater in the Chinese Movie Theater in Hollywood Studios. The ride-through attraction uses the new technology that creates a 3-D experience that still looks like classic and beloved 2-D cartoons. For example, there will be a fountain in the ride that looks 2-D, but the flowing water coming from it will be 3-D. The songs are super catchy and composed by famed Disney composer Christopher Willis.

Family Traveller was given a sneak peak of the film while visiting Orlando. In the beginning of the ride, guests will watch a premiere of a Mickey Mouse cartoon. The premise is that it’s a “Perfect Day for a Picnic” which is also the catchy song Mickey and Minnie sing while driving along in their convertible to have a fun picnic in the park. Suddenly, Pluto looses control of his pie and  it shoots up into the air and down the chimney of the train Goofy is driving, causing the train to blow up! Guests are then asked to come aboard Goofys train to be part of a wild adventure. We won’t give away the rest. You’ll have to experience it for yourself.

New merchandise for the ride was also announced. Some of the new goods for sale include a Goofy conductor hat, a train whistle, t-shirts, crossover bags, three commemorative pins. A new character, Chooby, is also being rolled out and will have his own plush toy and crossbody bag. Chooby gets his name from a cute play on words, Choo Choo, Chooby.
