APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU, apartment-style hotels
We probably don’t need to tell you that a family vacation in Japan is a thrill for kids, it’s the land of anime and manga, how could it not be exciting? Of course, it’s an amazing experience for parents too, and the fact that the entire country is safe, clean and convenient is a major advantage when you’re travelling with children . But there are quite a few other practicalities us adults have to think about before the fun begins, which is why we were keen to learn more about APARTMENT HOTEL MIMARU in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.

MIMARU lets you be yourself on a family vacation in Japan
How to spend more time together on your family vacation in Japan
Apartment-style hotels are a relatively new idea in Japan, but it’s fair to say they’re becoming increasingly popular, particularly with families, and a lot of that is down to MIMARU leading the way with some very family-friendly and revolutionary thinking.
Fun story here: the whole MIMARU concept of apartment-style hotels came about when the company founder saw a family struggling their way into a budget Japanese hotel with several large suitcases, and kids in tow, and thought to himself, ‘it really doesn’t have to be this way’.
Long story short, MIMARU was born and today has 27 apartment-style hotels across Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, where families definitely don’t struggle with any part of their stay.
Quite the opposite, as the entire MIMARU concept is made for families: warm, inviting, secure and – most important of all – very child-friendly. After all, spending time together is what a family vacation in Japan is all about, and where you stay should be as much part of that shared experience as the things you see and do with your kids.

Relax and spend time together in your own personal space
Family apartments where you feel at home, because that’s the MIMARU way
Let’s start with the apartments, because they really define your stay, and we can’t say enough good things about the thought that’s gone into their design.
With the choice of one or two bedrooms, you have as much space as you feel you need, and how good you feel about your apartment is a MIMARU priority. For more proof of that, you only have to look at the attention to little details that make you feel at home: something that’s so comforting for kids on vacation, yet overlooked by most hotels.
Cosy beds ensure everyone has a good night’s sleep and is filled with vacation-ready energy in the morning. Bathrooms with separate tubs are great for younger children. And your own dining area and kitchen gives you the freedom to get takeout when you want, make snacks or have breakfast at a time that suits you, and not the hotel staff.

Friendly, multi-lingual staff make your family vacation in Japan much easier
MIMARU staff all speak fluent English, and several other languages
Speaking of staff, this is another area where MIMARU excels. We can’t tell you what a relief it is to find that the team at every hotel all speak English, as well as quite a few other languages. So you can turn off your translation app when you arrive.
Plus, friendly and helpful is the signature MIMARU style, and that covers anything from travel directions and advice on local restaurants to the best shopping districts and even insider tips on Japanese customs – especially useful for families.
