Disney Parks Pixar-fication for 2018

Last updated 16th May 2018

There’s a party going on in the Disney Parks this summer – a Pixar Party that’s ramping up to be an Incredible Summer at both California’s Disneyland and Florida’s Walt Disney World Resorts. The Pixar fun corresponds with this summer’s release of Disney•Pixar’s “Incredibles 2” on June 15, 2018, and includes nearly all of the U.S. theme parks (and some of the international ones as well).

Pixar Pier (Disney•Pixar)

Pixar Fest – Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, California

From April 13 – September 3, 2018, the Disneyland Resort in California hosts Pixar Fest – celebrating the animated films of Pixar Studios from the original “Toy Story” (1995) to the Oscar-Winning “Coco” (2017).  Pixar Fest includes special attractions as well as themed food, beverage, and merchandise. Even Mickey and Minnie Mouse get in on the fun with Instagram-ready Pixar themed outfits.

At the Disney California Adventure Theme Park

The biggest change will be the Incredicoaster, opening June 23, and replacing the iconic California Screamin’ roller coaster.  Themed to Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles,” riders will board the coaster through the Parr family’s house (i.e., the Incredibles’ house), and race along trying to keep up and catch baby Jack-Jack. The Incredicoaster anchors one neighborhood of an entire new land called Pixar Pier.

Pixar Pier will contain four different areas based on different Pixar characters including: “The Incredibles” (with the Incredicoaster), “Toy Story” (home to Toy Story Mania!), “Inside Out” (with as yet unnamed family attraction), and a Pixar Ferris wheel with 24 gondolas decorated with different Pixar characters. Also at Pixar Pier will be the Lamplight Lounge (i.e., Pixar’s Luxo Lamp icon) restaurant and bar.

The popular “Paint the Night” parade that debuted for Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary in 2015 returns and moves over to Disney California Adventure with its original Pixar themed floats from “Toy Story,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Cars” as well as a brand-new float inspired by “The Incredibles.”

Finally, a Pixar Shorts film festival will play at the Sunset Showcase Theater with a rotation of Pixar’s award winning shorts such as “For the Birds” and “LAVA” throughout the celebration.

By day, the “Pixar Play Parade” winds down Main Street, U.S.A. with the iconic Luxo Lamp and Pixar Ball leading the way. New Pixar characters on other parade floats include Joy, Sadness, and Bing Bong from “Inside Out” (2015) as well as Russell the Wilderness Explorer atop Kevin the flightless bird, Dug the dog, and Carl Fredricksen with his tethered floating house from “Up” (2009).

Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” combines projections on iconic landmarks such as Sleeping Beauty Castle and the buildings of Main Street, U.S.A., with fireworks, and live flyovers from Buzz Lightyear and the balloon house from Up.

Incredible Summer – Walt Disney World Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort gets in on the Pixar fun with an Incredible Summer of Pixar experiences at three of their four Walt Disney World parks.

At Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park

Hey, Howdy, Hey! Toy Story Land, officially opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 30, 2018 with two new attractions, an eatery, and character meet & greets. In this well-themed land, guests can take a ride on the Slinky Dog Dash family roller coaster or Alien Swirling Saucers “whip-like” attraction. One of Disney’s Hollywood Studios most popular rides, Toy Story Mania!, has been expanded with a third track to accommodate more riders. Woody’s Lunch Box will offer old-fashioned soda floats and classic American fare from its counter-service location.  Of course, it wouldn’t be Disney without characters, and Woody, Buzz, and Jessie will meet with families throughout Toy Story Land.

At the Magic Kingdom Theme Park

Pixar’s family of super heroes, The Incredibles, take over Tomorrowland for the Incredible Tomorrowland Expo culminating in a “Super” dance party with appearances from Mr. & Mrs. Incredible, Frozone, and, for the first time, Edna Mode – costume designer for super heroes.

UP! A Great Bird Adventure (Disney•Pixar)

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

It’s the 20th anniversary for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and they are celebrating with a new show based on Pixar’s “Up”. UP! A Great Bird Adventure debuts on April 22, and features Wilderness Explorer Russell and his dog Dug, learning about bird species from around the world.  Performed multiple times a day, the new show will include many free-flying live bird demonstrations.

To Infinity and Beyond!

For Pixar fans outside the United States, Shanghai Disneyland gets its own Toy Story Land on April 26 with Slinky Dog Spin, Rex’s Racer, and Woody’s Round-Up. Families can grab something to eat at the Toy Box Café, and adopt toys of their own to bring home from Al’s Toy Barn.
