These Hotels and Trips Offer Discounts for Single Parents
Sometimes it seems as though the travel industry is catered to two adults. But if you’re a single parent looking for family vacation options that don’t set prices and itineraries based on a pair of parents in your party, these hotels and trips are ready to step in. After all, single parents need a vacation, too—and shouldn’t be paying more to take the kids solo. Check out these single parent vacation deals and get booking!
Grand Velas, the all-inclusive hotel chain with three locations in Mexico (Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit), has a Single Parents Getaway that waives the single supplement fee for single parents traveling with their children. Special rates and programs are offered as well for kids and teens and in some cases, extra included features like a dolphin experience for one adult and two children at the Nayarit property.
Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino in Saint Martin features a Single Parent Package, waiving the single supplement fee and offering free stays for kids 12 and younger with discounts for older kids. The package includes a child welcome beach amenity, daily Kids Club activities for ages 3-12, Teen Zone access for kids age 12 to 17, and family movie night with popcorn, candy, drinks and more.
Disney Cruise Line has set up programs aimed at making single parents feel as comfortable as possible. It connects solo parent travelers at meals and even plans activities (think mixers, arcade meet-ups and basketball games) for single-parent families. Booking a stateroom with one adult and children is also a bit cheaper than a room with two adults and children.
MSC Cruises also offers single parent vacation deals with an All-in-One special fare, which is an all-inclusive package for you and your kids (no second adult), with Babycare, Miniclub, Juniors Club, dining, waterparks, shows and activities.
Intrepid Travel, which runs itineraries all around the globe, offers dedicated Solo Parent Family Vacations. On these trips, made up of 3-5 like-minded families, the kids tend to hit it off right away, allowing parents to enjoy some well-earned R&R. The whole family ends up making friendships with people from all over the world, staying in touch long after the adventure ends. Plus, Intrepid plans everything in advance. Nearly all hotels feature pools, and each day has a great mix of action-packed adventure and flexible free time. A local leader can also suggest activities based on your kid’s hobbies or school curriculum.
OARS camping and rafting trips are ideal for single parent families. Professional guides would take care of everything from the tents and sleeping bags to the food and beverages and even games. You’ll likely find yourself on a rafting journey with other single parents and their teenagers—making the experience that much more enjoyable. Even better? Leave the cooking, cleaning, table-setting and fire-starting to the guides. This is a trip for partnerless parents to soak up the memories rather than the logistics.
