Heart of the country doesn’t even touch on the serenity of Plas Isaf Lodge Retreat where the only sounds you’ll hear are gently splashing streams and ducks quacking on the pretty pond.
However, if you want to stretch your horizons to something a little livelier, Chester Zoo is just 30 minutes away from Plas Isaf. Of course, this award-winning zoo is always worth a visit, but at the moment it’s of particular interest as Darwin Escapes are sponsoring the zoo’s ‘Native: The Incredible World of British Wildlife’ exhibition. On until spring 2024, this 360° projection-based experience is designed to give kids a rare glimpse into the lives of the creatures, seen or unseen, with which they co-exist, and it’s fascinating.
Spend a day on the beach or in Eryri National Park
Nearby beaches are another reason to get out and about, especially as Wales keeps some of its best on the coast close to Plas Isaf. Famous names like Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Rhyl are just a short drive away, and you can be on the broad, golden sands of astonishing Prestatyn Beach in just 20 minutes.
Alternatively, Eryri National Park is only 40 minutes west of Plas Isaf Lodge Retreat, which means no time at all from the likes of the Snowdon Mountain Railway, mammoth ziplines and the white knuckle fun of mountain coasters.
Although if the weather plays nice, you could also go looking for thrills at the new SC2 Waterpark in Rhyl or lace up your boots for a hike up to the caves at the top of Dyserth Waterfall: one of the best kept secrets in North Wales.
