Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis has long been the best family ski resort in Tyrol, and this season, yet again, it proves that it simply can’t do enough for children, and their parents too, of course.

Sitting in the Oberinntal Valley, surrounded by soaring peaks, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis takes its role as a family ski resort so seriously, it dedicates 125,000m² of snow areas to younger skiers, offers you the choice of two top ski schools, as well as childcare, family-friendly accommodation, endless entertainment, and fun off and on the slopes. Plus, it’s home to the world’s smallest and highest underground train – that alone could have been designed for kids.

The family ski resort, where the skiing is great too
Sunny and snow-sure Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis welcomes skiing families well into spring with 214km of groomed slopes and a good balance of blue, red and black runs, along with off-piste and 30km of cross country routes.
Naturally kids love it here for the truly wonderful snow parks (more on those in a minute), but parents can relax into a holiday too, not least because of the exceptional lift network that serves all three villages, and can potentially transport an astonishing 92,260 people per hour.
For even more parental relaxation, the childcare for younger kids is particularly good here and gives you the choice of Murmli Créche in Serfaus or Berta’s Kindergarten in Fiss. Obviously carefree, grown-up skiing is one of the benefits of being child-free for a few hours, but the resort’s wide range of family accommodation also includes several excellent spa hotels, so you might want to think about adding some soothing me-time into the mix as well.

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis puts all other children’s snow parks in the shade
It might be hard to imagine, but Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis makes snow even more exciting for kids. One look at Kinderschneealm & Murmli Park in Serfaus and you’ll understand what we mean right away. Leaving most other snow parks trailing, this one covers 45,000m² and it’s where your children will discover learning is fun, not least because ski lessons here come with help from Murmli: a giant, fluffy marmot and the Kinderschneealm mascot. Of course, there’s a strong team of highly trained children’s ski instructors as well, but it’s Murmli who brings the dancing, singing, stories and hugs.
Lessons start at Ski School Serfaus from age three with Team Fiona for beginners. Team Ingo confidence builds with young skiers who already know some of the basics, and Team Bruno is for more advanced kids. Along with learning technique and safety, kids can also look forward to the thrill of themed slopes, weekly ski races and plenty of snow-based play. Naturally, parents are invited along too and KinderShneealm even provides you with canopied beach chairs from which you can proudly observe your little snow stars.

Why this is the family ski resort impresses kids of all ages
Berta’s Kinderland in Fiss-Ladis is another innovative Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis snow park with a cute mascot, this time, Berta the Cow. It’s also home to Ski School Fiss-Ladis as well as the wildly imaginative Indian Village, Kids Rodeo Course and several Fun Slopes. Again, lessons start here from age three and kids have the added fun of new technology, like the Snow V, which teaches beginners how to execute a perfect snow plough, and is also a world first for Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.
Teens might be too old for mascots, but they have plenty of challenge in Fiss-Ladis from Slopestyle and Freeride to the more advanced Fun Park, as well as snowboard, cross country and snow sport courses: great for spending time together as a family.

Enjoying the sun © Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Marketing GmbH/Andreas Kirschner
Lace up your boots and make the most of the sunshine
There’s nothing quite like a crisp winter hike on a sunny day and Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis has plenty of those, along with great family trails that even younger walkers will be happy to tackle.
If the biggest possible views are on your agenda, pick the Panorama Enjoyment Trail for a trek through nature surrounded by stunning 3,000m high peaks. This one is the perfect Tyrolean memory maker for kids, starting at the Komperdell station and ending up at Möseralbahn station, the entire hike takes about an hour and 30 minutes. Although it’s a good idea to build in some extra time to stop off at one of the mountain huts on-route, for lunch or just a breather.
To weave a little gentle learning into a walk, follow the circular Almpromenade Trail from Kinderschneealm round the reservoir. The scenery is distractingly lovely on this one, but keep a look out for the info-boards on-route which explain the history of skiing in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. And as an extra reward for your legwork, you’ll also find deckchairs and hammocks strategically placed round the reservoir for welcome rests.

World’s smallest underground train © Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Marketing GmbH/Andreas Kirschner
The only family ski resort connected by the world’s smallest underground
The three villages that make up Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis sit on a high plateau at between 1,200 and 2,828m above sea level, surrounded by the Samnaun Mountains and Ötztal Alps. So there’s no denying that a lot of stuff goes on well above the ground here. But what might really amaze you this winter, is what lies beneath this forward-thinking family resort.
Not one to shy away from technology, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is home to the world’s smallest and highest underground train. Yes, you read that correctly. Completely renovated and re-opened in 2019 the Serfaus Underground is driverless, floats on air cushions and connects the entire resort, so kids can say they took the tube to ski this winter.

Witches’ Toboggan Run ©Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Marketing GmbH/Andreas-Kirschner
You haven’t tobogganed until you’ve tried Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis
Tobogganing can feel like flying, especially on runs that stretch for kilometre after kilometre under sunny, blue skies. Both of these essentials factor into the fun at Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis which is not only one of the sunniest family ski resorts in the Alps, it also has two amazing toboggan runs totalling eight fast and fearless kilometres.
Grab your sled and your kids and make for the four kilometre Witches’ Run which matches speedy stretches with thrilling bends and whizzes all the way from Steinegg to Schönjochbahn Valley Station across snow-covered meadows and over the Kuh Alm Fiss.
Or hold on tight for the daredevil Toboggan Run Serfaus that delivers bends and slopes with plenty of shriek-making potential, but isn’t too much for young sledders. This run also covers four kilometres and starts at Komerdellbahn.
