Nordica Unleashed JR Skis, Ellis Brigham recommended kids’ ski equipment
Nordica Unleashed JR Skis plus bindings
The Unleashed JR is perfect for young skiers ready to confidently explore the whole mountain. Lightweight and playful, it’s easy to turn on groomed slopes, yet stable enough for soft snow and small jumps. This is a great recommendation for kids who’re up for pushing their limits.

Salomon S/Race 60 TL Kids’ Ski Boots
Salomon S/Race 60 TL Kids’ Ski Boots
Salomon’s S/Race 60 takes inspiration from the successful Salomon race range and modifies it for younger, less experienced skiers.
The Polyolefin plastic shell and cuff are light but still have the right level of support, and the cuff is shorter than an adult boot so doesn’t put too much force onto the leg.
Also, at this price they’re a great investment, particularly as you can hand them down to siblings and they hold their value on re-sale sites as well.

Steve Wells’ top tips for family skiers
- Be prepared. We get everything ready the day before and, if we’re staying in a bigger hotel or apartment, we make sure to get to the boot room early before the crush. That way we can be out on the slopes in plenty of time for ski school. Starting the day without any stress makes it so much more enjoyable for kids and parents.
- Pack smart. Three things that should always be packed in parents’ pockets: Buffs (neck tubes), collapsible water bottles and snacks!
Goggles to helmets and beyond: recommended kids’ accessories

Salomon Orka kids’ ski helmet
Salomon Orka kids’ ski helmet
This one is so nice and lightweight your kids won’t notice they’re wearing it.
Also, the adjustable fit system is easy to use, so you can make sure it fits securely on their head. Finally, there’s plenty of venting, and a strap to secure goggles in place: one less thing to worry about them losing!

Salomon Lumi Access kid’s goggles, Ellis Brigham
Salomon Lumi Access kid’s goggles
These medium-fitting goggle have all the main features for your children, but won’t break the bank.
In fact, they share a lot of the same features used on adult googles, like dual-layer lens to prevent fogging, and a light-mirrored coating that reduces glare, only they’re downsized for smaller faces.

POC VPD Air Vest, Ellis Brigham
POC VPD Air Vest
This vest is really lightweight and breathable so you hardly notice you’re wearing it.
But it’s really effective, meets European safety certification EN1621-Leven 1 standards, and the protector itself is made of a soft, flexible material, which hardens on impact to protect your spine.

Luke Watkins’ top ski tips for parents
- Start strong: the more kids enjoy their first ski trip the more likely you’ll be able to enjoy powder days with them in the future. My top advice is always take plenty of snacks and drinks everywhere you go, and allow lots of time to get anywhere!
- Pack smart: one of the most important things I pack is a strong sunscreen. Compact ones for kids are great and fit easily into your pocket. Also, think sunglasses for kids, their sensitive eyes will find the snow really bright.

Sparkle the Unicorn Ski Suit
Usually, if your child loves something, parents think it looks a bit questionable, but this one keeps everyone happy. Plus, it’s fun and eye-catching but doesn’t compromise on performance.

Harriet Cavill’s best ski tip for younger kids
- Dress for success: as a mum of a two-year-old, I’ve learned that the key to happy ski days is choosing kit your kids actually love. If they like it, they’ll wear it, and keep it on.

- Sweet treats: my wife and I keep cola bottle sweets in our pockets. In our experience, lots of little treats on the chair lift work much better than one big gesture!

David Whitlow’s top ski hacks for families
- Wise choice: Put the little ones into a great English-speaking ski school. This guarantees they’ll love their ski trip, look forward to holidays to come, and it gives you some grown-up time on the slopes. I can personally recommend New Generation.
- Smart stay: If you really want an unforgettable family ski holiday with luxury chalet accommodation, fine dining (kids eat early so adults can enjoy their us-time), and amazing levels of service, check out TG Ski, another personal recommendation.
