The village of Sesto is ideal if you want to wake up, clip in and go, as the village sits right by the slopes with everything close to hand.
San Candido adds a bit more atmosphere, with its medieval abbey and lively market town feel. It’s also home to the Monte Baranci area especially for families, with features like the Realm of the Gigante Baranci and a ski cross course for kids.
Dobbiaco is a practical pick for its fantastic transport links, like the sleek little train that whisks you straight into the ski area: perfect if you’re juggling multiple kids and all their kit.
If you want a more fairy tale escape, Villabassa is one of the quieter villages, as is Braies, which edges out a little in front by dint of a dreamy lake.

The Waldheim area in Sesto is tailored for beginners, with wide gentle slopes and friendly snow tunnels to ease younger kids into skiing. At Croda Rossa, giant snowmen beg for family selfies. And if your crew still has energy after sunset, there’s night skiing twice a week at Monte Baranci.

We can highly recommend family-run Berghotel in Sesto
We stayed at the charming, family-run Berghotel in Sesto which turned out to be a bit of a gem. Think traditional Alpine warmth with modern comforts, like four pools, six saunas, and loads of post-ski activities for kids.
The food was another highlight. Local, hearty and creative, with enough pasta and pizza to keep children happy, but plenty to please more discerning palates too.
In short, it’s the kind of hotel where everyone finds their happy place, whether that’s in a pool, by the fire or stretched out on a spa lounger.

Getting to 3 Zinnen From the UK is relatively easy, particularly as the new Cortina Express now runs daily and takes you from Venice airport to the resort in around two hours. There are several other nearby airports too, including Treviso, Bolzano, Innsbruck, and Klagenfurt, so you can often dodge the worst of the holiday crowds.
The 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski region isn’t flashy, but delivers where it counts and offers that rare combo of uncrowded slopes, great snow reliability, top facilities, and thoughtful touches which are aimed squarely at families. So it’s no wonder that it scooped the Best Ski Resort 2024 win in the World Ski Awards: an accolade that simply confirms what savvy families already know.
For us, 3 Zinnen Dolomites is what family ski holidays should be: scenic, relaxed, efficient and genuinely enjoyable, with no pretence or stress; just brilliant skiing in one of Europe’s loveliest settings. And after a week of sunshine, snow, good food, and fun, we were reluctant to leave, but happily plotting our return.
