Launching on 5 April, visitors to Brunel’s ss Great Britain in Bristol will be able to step into the shoes of a Victorian sailor and climb the ship’s rig to the top of the mast. Those that brave the 27 metre climb will see a beautiful view of Bristol.
The experience is designed to be as authentic as possible to give visitors an idea of what life was like for crew members aboard the Victorian passenger liner.
Participants will wear a harness before climbing the rigging to a platform. You can then walk about the mainyard, which takes you 9m out across the ship below, before returning to solid ground. Crew will also be available down below for those who want to experience the ship with their feet firmly on the Weather Deck.
Who’s it good for? This climb is suitable for kids aged ten years this is a perfect activity for the whole family during the Easter and summer holidays – there’s also plenty to do for those who would prefer not to climb!
