Whether it’s snuggling up in a cottage with an ocean view, sailing over the waves, or simply soaking up the sun while bobbing gently on a lilo, the ocean is often at the heart of happy family time. As well as bringing us bucketfuls of pleasure, the ocean is hugely important to all our lives (no matter how far inland you live!).

The ocean regulates climate, feeds millions of people, is home to a wonderful array of wildlife and produces the oxygen we all breathe. Now isn’t that worth celebrating?! 8 June 2016 is World Oceans Day, a global day of celebrating the world’s oceans and coming together to preserve them.

Family Traveller is proud to have teamed up with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to highlight the plight of our planet’s beautiful seas.

Below you’ll find out how families can enjoy the ocean responsibly and what you can do to ensure their future. Discover the best spots to watch marine wildlife ethically and learn how we can all help look after beaches and seas. Whether it’s by helping turtle hatchlings on their way to sea, or by committing to give up using plastic straws, there are hundreds of ways we can all make a change to help our precious oceans.
