Last updated 18th July 2022

1/10 Lower Micklin Touring Park, Denstone, Staffordshire

What better place to park your motorhome than two miles from Alton Towers?

There are only 15 pitches, all with electric hook-up, and a recently built family bathroom with toilet, shower, basin and baby changing unit. Better still, buses to the popular theme park leave from the bottom of the site’s driveway.

Wing hall rutland

2/10 Wing Hall, Wing, Rutland

Close to the watersports haven that is Rutland Water, this campsite is in the beautiful grounds of a stately home and is popular with families. On-site bike hire means you can tackle the three, eight or 25-mile cycle routes that have been created by Anglian Water, owners of the horseshoe-shaped reservoir. The pretty market towns of Oakham and Stamford are nearby, as is Burghley Park, home of the famous horse trials.

Treveague farm st austell cornwall

3/10 Treveague Farm, St Austell, Cornwall

The UK’s south-west peninsula has always been popular with families, so if you’re taking a motorhome why not stay somewhere with fabulous views of the sea? The coastal footpath passes through this site, leading you to the picturesque fishing village of Gorran Haven, which has local amenities and a safe beach for children.

5/10 Setley Ridge Vineyard, Brockenhurst Hampshire

Growing the grapes, making the wine, bottling it and selling it all on the property, this family-run business also welcomes motorhomes to its campsite.

As it’s in the heart of the New Forest National Park, Setley Ridge also makes a great base for family days out. The National Motor Museum, the Dorset coastal resorts and Buckler’s Hard – where Nelson’s ships were built for the Battle of Trafalgar – are all a short drive away.

Ardnamurchan campsite

8/10 Ardnamurchan Campsite, Kilchoan, Highlands

Not the easiest place to get your motorhome to, but well worth the effort. It’s the UK’s most westerly campsite, near the tip of a rocky finger of land 60 miles from Fort William, and is part of a small working croft.

The main attractions are the stunning coastal views, genuine ‘end-of-the-world’ remoteness and the wildlife – otters, sea eagles, golden eagles and pine martens. One for families happy with their own company.
