Ty Mamgu, a cool Welsh cabin

Last updated 3rd January 2017

Why go?

Sheepskin’s new cabin, Ty Mamgu appears simple at first, but the inside shows its true colours with handcrafted furniture and traditional Welsh charm. Ty Mamgu, ‘grandma’s house’ in Welsh, is located on the edge of an organic farm and overlooks fields of sheep. There are beautiful beaches just a 20-minute drive away, as well as shopping at the nearby National Wool Museum and in Newcastle Emlyn. If you’re looking for adventure we suggest coasteering, rock climbing and kayaking at Cardigan Bay or relax and watch the dolphins from the beach walk on the Wales coastal path.

Where to stay

The interior is described as ‘rural meets retro’ and has a 50s-style kitchen, along with a double bed made by the owner from solid oak gate. The cabin is also equipped with traditional Welsh blankets and a hand-crafted stick chair.

This is ideal for a romantic getaway without the kids as the beautiful countryside allows for peaceful nights that can be filled with star gazing from the cabin’s private deck, or you could take a tent and keep the kids outside! Guests can also enjoy the game barn with table tennis and darts or for the music lovers, there’s a piano to jam on.

Where to eat

Home-cooked breakfast is available at an extra cost and is made from the nearby farmhouse using locally sourced and homemade produce. Choices include Swansea Fisherman’s Breakfast, which comprises bacon, Welsh cockles and laverbread with cream on homemade granary toast; traditional Welsh Rarebit and the most decadent porridge made with Welsh double cream, brown sugar and a dash of Welsh whisky.

Head to the nearby organic farm shop to stock up on supplies.
