2/5 Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats, Maidstone, Kent

The UK’s only registered goat sanctuary, Buttercups is home to 140 animals and fosters another 120 across the Kent area and London. The aim is simple: to give abused and mistreated goats a loving home, safe from harm, for their entire lives. Visit for a fun, family day out and you can’t help noticing how well that gentle philosophy’s working.

Welly & Waterproof Days, every Sunday from November to April, are a chance for kids to meet the goats, talk to volunteers and see the sanctuary in action – bath time’s a bit of a highlight.

During summer, Buttercups is open every day from 10am to 4pm: the weather might be better but still bring wellies for Walking with Goats, it can get messy. Entry’s by donation and there’s a new tearoom for 2017.
