Back in June we asked our readers and social media followers to tell us about their favourite retro family holiday memory – remember those long drives down to the Isle of Wight in the back of your dad’s Capri, or that first holiday on the Spanish costas? Crunching through sticks of rock on Brighton Pier or coveting a ‘Kiss me Quick’ hat in Blackpool?
Together with Young Soles and a selection of our favourite independent kids wear labels, we put together an amazing bundle of goodies worth over £750 as a competition prize. The best entry – in no more than 50 words and submitted with an old photo – was chosen by a panel of judges from Young Soles and Family Traveller.
The winner is Eleanor Wells from Horsham. Eleanor says, ‘I remember driving to the South of France in cars with plastic seats that used to get really hot in the sunshine and burn your bottom unless put a towel over the seat first! But glorious camping, ancient towns, markets and beautiful gorges more than made up for it!’

Eleanor wins a three-night weekend, self-catering break at Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire, west Wales, including complimentary access to the Blue Lagoon Waterpark and indoor Adventure Centre, a pair of shoes or sandals from Young Soles, sun safe swimwear from Indikidual, a Panda Pop sunhat and Scout sunglasses from Little Hotdog Watson, a bum-bag courtesy of Rockahula Kids, Teeny Waves Terry Shorts and a Surfing Bunny T-shirt by The Bonnie Mob, and a swim item of choice courtesy of Close Parent.
We had more than 1,600 entries so it seems only fair to share a couple of our favourite entries here as well.
