Mauna Lani, Hawaii is made for adventurous kids

There’s nowhere quite like Hawaii to inspire a sense of discovery in kids. So that’s exactly what Mauna Lani’s Holoholo Kids Crew does every single day by encouraging young guests to connect with the land and understand their natural surroundings. Imaginative hands-on activities created for children between five and 12 years range from cooking classes to extraordinary expeditions. Exciting sports and water sports are all part of the adventure too. Even quiet time is made magical with moonlight storytelling and family movies under the stars.

Holoholo Kids Crew has just as much fun out and about. Children can look forward to coastal hikes where the ground is actually lava. Discovering historic petroglyphs carved by Hawaiian islanders centuries ago makes for another unforgettable experience. And the ancient tradition of ‘talk story’ lives on in Danny Akaka. Affectionately known as “Uncle Danny”, he’s the Knowledge Keeper at Mauna Lani and treats young listeners to Hawaiian legends older than time but still as thrilling as ever.

Be inspired by an extraordinary natural environment

Mauna Lani also recently launched Koholā Talk led by Ethan Souza, the resort’s Natural Resources Manager. All guests can enjoy these inspiring Marine Mammal Mornings which offer a unique insight into the fascinating creatures inhabiting the waters all around Hawaii. Talks cover everything from biology and history to the roles of whales, dolphins and seals in Hawaiian culture. Plus, as part of the experience guests have the opportunity to see marine mammals for themselves in the calm seas bordering Mauna Lani.

Meet the Green Sea Turtles of Mauna Lani, Hawaii

If your kids are keen on turtles, they’ll be thrilled about the Mālama Honu Turtle Program at Mauna Lani. Working in partnership with Sea Life Park in Oahu the resort cares for captive-reared Green Sea Turtle hatchlings in its own saltwater ponds. So children are able to observe and learn about them from experts like resident ‘Turtle Guy’, Pi’i Laeha. Naturally, enchanting memories are the biggest take home, however, a lifelong passion for marine conservation is a nice by-product.

Captive-reared Green Sea Turtle hatchlings can stay at Mauna Lani for up to three years or until they’re ready to be introduced into the wild. Then, every year on July 4th, it’s Turtle Independence Day. Just as spellbinding as it sounds, guests are invited to gather silently along the shoreline and watch as turtles are released. The miraculous moment of that first swim in the ocean is something you and your kids will never forget. Although you’ll find Mauna Lani is simply filled with those moments.

Ready to make unforgettable family memories? Visit Mauna Lani in Hawaii and discover why it’s the most heavenly resort for kids (and parents too, of course).
