Kuramathi Maldives has always been an outstanding Maldives family resort, but this year it’s more full of family-friendly surprises than ever, and we are impressed.
Set in North Ari Atoll, Kuramathi is one of the first Universal Resorts islands in the Maldives, and one of the very few in this legendary Indian Ocean archipelago which promises, ‘something for everyone’, and really delivers.

Kuramathi Maldives, North Ari Atoll
A rare Maldives family resort that lets you customise your stay, completely
It’s not often a resort allows you to customise your stay to the extent Kuramathi does. But not only do you have the freedom to choose which of the 12 different villa types suits you best at this Maldives family resort, you can also pick the perfect meal plan, select the activities you enjoy most, and even decide what sort of transfers work best – a real plus with younger children.
Although you’ll probably find that incredibly generous all-inclusive at Kuramathi is the best fit, not least because it gives you the choice of Basic All-Inclusive or Select All-Inclusive. Both packages include breakfast, lunch and dinner at the buffet restaurant closest to your villa, along with lots of other inclusions ranging from sports and activities to daily mini-bar refills. And on top of that, with Select All Inclusive you have the freedom to dine at any of the resort’s nine à la carte restaurants and enjoy a curated selection of wine to complement your meal.

Picturesque pitch, Campioni Football Academy, Kuramathi Maldives
Campioni Football Academy arrives at Kuramathi this summer
Campioni Football Academy at Kuramathi is one of the all-time great partnerships this summer. The incredibly popular football training camps for 4 to 15 year olds kick off on 28 July and run until 8 August 2025. As always, Campioni invite kids to ‘Train Like A Pro’ and to make sure that happens, the coaching is delivered by three football legends: John Barnes MBE; Harry Redknapp and Stuart Pearce MBE.
We probably don’t need to say ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’, but there’s really no other way to describe having two-hours per day of intensive training with these football greats.
In other good news, no experience is necessary, so beginners are as welcome as kids who already live and breathe the game. Also, as well as developing ball skills, part of the Campioni mission is to teach your kids the importance of teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship. Needless to say, having a lot of fun is a Campioni priority too.
Then there’s free time for parents, which is an added bonus. Although the Campioni experience very much includes families, from its welcome drinks with star coaches at the start of the week to a mid-week parents’ game where grown-ups are pitched against the pros.

Bageecha Kids Club, Kuramathi Maldives
Bageecha Kids Club is another reason children love this Maldives family resort
A long and happy list of Bageecha Kids Club ‘repeaters’ proves there’s no better recommendation for a kids’ club, than the kids themselves. Children who’ve been coming to this lovely Maldives family resort since they were tiny are always keen to get the fun started on their next visit, and it’s easy to see why they love it so much.
The club is fully supervised by Kuramathi’s trained and qualified childcare team, and welcomes children from age three to 12 years. A carefully planned activity programme is key to Bageecha’s popularity, and because it changes every two weeks, things are always fresh and exciting. As well as a strong focus on outdoor games and sports, kids can also look forward to arts and crafts every morning. Along with nature walks, visits to Kuramathi Eco-Centre teach about the island, marine life and conservation. Then the likes of BBQs and movie time, let kids simply chill and hang out with new friends.
We like that all the club activities are tailored to different age groups, such as Bubblemaker courses, available for underwater explorers aged 8 and over. So no one ever gets bored or feels out of their depth. And it’s particularly impressive how quickly even less outgoing kids feel at home, probably because building confidence, and encouraging socialisation are naturally woven into the fun here.

Bubblemaker diving lessons, Kuramathi Maldives
Football is far from the only fun for families here, year round
Campioni Football Academy is definitely the big news this summer, but Kuramathi is a very sporting Maldives family resort any time of year, from day and night tennis to diving in a dream locations.
Three swimming pools and a children’s pool give you plenty of opportunity to cool off, do laps or just float around. Non-motorised water sports include paddleboarding, windsurfing and kayaking. If you want something a bit more hi-octane, you can try water skiing, banana boat rides or tubing. Catamaran and dinghy courses are available for budding sailors from age 12. And keen snorkellers will love exploring the incredible house reef: all-inclusive stays at Kuramathi include complimentary snorkelling equipment for adults and kids.
When you want to go deeper underwater, multi-lingual Rasdhoo Divers team at Kuramathi are the ideal partners, whether you’re learning to dive for the first time or an experienced diver planning to discover why the Maldives is considered to be one of the most exciting diving destinations in the world.

Two Bedroom Beach House, Kuramathi Maldives
Take your pick of villas at this Maldives family resort
Kuramathi is justifiably proud of its naturally beautiful island, not least because it has a spectacular house reef which runs along its entire 1.8km length, and can be reached easily from the shore. Apart from that rare feature, it’s also known for clear lagoons and lush, tropical jungle, as well as a dazzling white sandbank, and the type of gorgeous beaches that give the Maldives its well deserved paradise reputation.
Each of the resort’s 12 villa types has been designed to harmonise perfectly with these idyllic surroundings, from charming, thatched Beach Villas to the Thundi Water Villas which string elegantly along the iconic Kuramathi sandbank.
But it’s the collection of Two Bedroom Beach Houses that we especially like. Clearly created with families in mind, each one sleeps up to six guests and features two separate living areas, and enormous bedrooms. They’re also built over two storeys, with the added drama of extraordinary balconies where you can lounge around and admire wide open Indian Ocean views.

Inguru Restaurant
Delectable dining with divine views, and so much choice
Having three buffet restaurants, each within easy reach of villas, is another clever design decision that defines Kuramathi as a great Maldives family resort. Meanwhile, making the most of the island’s natural beauty was obviously a priority when it came to choosing the ideal location for each of the resort’s nine à la carte restaurants.
So you can dine on fresh seafood over the lagoon at The Reef; try the many and varied tastes of Thailand at Siam Garden, surrounded by lush greenery; Tandoor Mahal lets you gaze over more of the resort’s gorgeous gardens, and Palm serves up the Mediterranean with a relaxed, beachy vibe, indoors and out.
When you want a little drama with dinner, overwater Kobe Teppanyaki restaurant is the place for that. Or if you crave impeccably prepped French cuisine, you’ll love La Belle Vie with its elegant verandas and laid-back atmosphere. Traditional Asian cooking with an international twist and ocean views makes Inguru a favourite for light lunches. And we probably don’t need to tell you how much families enjoy the casual, toes in the sand cool of Island Barbecue, with more sea views on the side. Then there’s all-day-dining at Island Coffee Shop, which elevates the café concept with its mix of fresh, local curries and delightfully authentic afternoon teas.
