In summer, it also becomes a giant playground for adventuring kids, because when the snow melts, it’s time for family summer mountain holidays to begin.
Think sun-drenched hiking and biking trails, cute marmot encounters, adventure parks and monster scooter rides. Many of the valley’s activities are aimed at families, because Saas-Fee/Saastal puts kids and parents at the heart of everything they do. And for 2025, there are a whole host of new things going on in Saas-Fee/Saastal for active families.

No cars, no problem, just use your SaastalCard to get around
The absence of cars in Saas-Fee isn’t a new trend, things have been this way since 1951, as part of the local government’s commitment to green policies and sustainability: well ahead of the curve, and another reason the local mountain air is so prized.
But no cars doesn’t limit your family summer mountain holidays here, as the complimentary SaastalCard, which you receive from your first overnight stay for the duration of your time in the region, means you get free transport on cable cars and buses all around the valley, as well as a wide range of discounts in the local area.
So if you’re coming by car, park it with the others at the car park at the entrance of Saas-Fee and discover the summer mountains as nature intended, or by bus. We promise you won’t look back!

Head to the sunny mountain Hannig for new family adventures
The Hannig, otherwise known as Sunny Mountain for its clement position, has exciting new family attractions this summer.
We love an educational hike, and there’s a new hiking trail dedicated to meteorology: the ‘Eddie and the Mountain Weather’ trail. It’s a family-friendly trail with plenty of fascinating information, and promises to be lots of fun, as well as great exercise.
The new mountain cart experience is more fast-paced fun; in the safest, most child-friendly way, of course.
Plus, the new gondola lift which opened in summer 2024, takes visitors up the mountain to a renovated restaurant with panoramic views, where you’ll find a new playground and a Glacier Swing: perfect for pictures and that feeling of swinging on top of the world.
Numerous hiking trails around the Hannig also mean you can explore the area on foot: younger kids will love the Mälchbodu fairytale trail and cute goats on the Alpe Hannig.
Kreuzboden is full of summer treats this year
Let loose at the huge new playground in Kreuzboden Adventure Land, with a brand-new air trampoline and a crystal mine, both of which are bound to be a hit with kids: the crystal mine has a treasure hunt for young explorers. The views are epic of course, particularly from the suspension bridges and climbing walls, so no doubt they’ll feel like conquering heroes.
You’ll want to venture into the waterpark once everyone needs cooling off; it has a convenient barbecue area nearby. And if some cute animals are missing from proceedings, there’s also a petting zoo at Kreuzboden mountain station.

Meeting the friendly local Saas-Fee/Saastal marmots
Marmot feeding is the fluffiest fun in Saas-Fee
Marmots are a big draw in Saas-Fee during the warmer months, due to their fluffiness, cuteness, and tendency to be rather hungry after the long winter hibernation.
So from May onwards, they love being fed the designated marmot foods of peanuts and carrots, and you can pick up supplies at the tourist office in Saas-Fee, and at the Spielboden mountain restaurant too. And you should, because the Saas-Fee marmots are friendly creatures, and feeding them is a seriously fun activity for kids.
Learn new tricks on family summer mountain holidays
For confidence-building and a whole lot of fun, the Saas-Fee Rope Park is a series of rope courses designed for adults and children.
What’s special about this particular rope park is that children as young as four can have a turn, once they’ve got their safety equipment on: helmets and harnesses are a non-negotiable accessory, as is an adult to keep an eye on things. The bigger rope course is for kids aged 10 and over (or with a height of 1.45m), which has three levels of difficulty to keep everyone in the family happy.
The same applies to the Saas-Fee Rope Park zipline, which is the deepest in the whole of Europe, and an incredible 210m whizzing over picturesque Fee Gorge.

High octane thrills on toboggan runs and Monster Scooters
A mountain toboggan that’s suitable for everyone, the Feeblitz toboggan run is yet another Saas-Fee/Saastal adventure that families love.
Kids over the age of eight can ride the toboggan solo, and younger kids get to ride in tandem with a parent, so nobody misses out. It’s known as a mountain rollercoaster for good reason: getting to Feeblitz on the steepest toboggan lift in the Alps is an excitement in itself, and going down again is even better.
Alternatively, cruise down the mountain on monster scooters for a unique family adventure, because Monster Scooters are so much more fun than the ordinary ones, they may ruin you for life. With fat tyres suitable for tough terrains, Monsters can take on the mountains with ease, and if your children are small, you can even ride in tandem.
You’ll love the views on the 11-kilometre route from Kreuzboden to Saas-Grund, and it’s a seriously fun way to travel.

The Foxtrail scavenger hunt © Saastal Tourismus AG/Puzzle Media
Scavenger hunts with Foxtrail, and playgrounds for every age
You may have tried scavenger hunts before, but Foxtrail is properly challenging. If your kids are good at deciphering puzzles and secret codes, they may find this a cinch, if not, they’ll have lots of fun trying.
As well as learning the secrets of Imseng, a pioneering 19th century priest who introduced the beauty of Saas-Fee to the world, you get to explore his historic house for clues. And of course, the region’s fluffiest marmots get involved too, and you’ll need to do some climbing. It’s one of the most exciting scavenger hunts in the whole of Switzerland, and teamwork makes the dream work.
