Hard Rock Hotel Marbella tops the charts for family entertainment

No one does a themed hotel like Hard Rock, and the Marbella property is all about family entertainment, with a strong side of music cred. Lisa McGarry and son Dylan visited.

Half term at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella for me and my teen

Andalusia’s glorious climate makes an early spring break feel like a brilliant idea. Temperatures often nudge into the twenties, so you can split your time between exploring and stretching out by the pool. That’s exactly what my son Dylan and I did over half term at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella, a 4-star crowd pleaser packed with rock memorabilia and fun vibes. It’s an easy drive from the airport and close enough to stroll to the beach or wander around the yacht-filled, designer-heavy harbour of Puerto Banús. Visiting outside summer months also means less crowds: so while the hotel was buzzy, it wasn’t annoyingly packed.

For a teen travelling with his mum, the hotel strikes the right note. Signed guitars gleam in glass cases, giant portraits of Bowie and Hendrix watch over the scene. Outfits once worn by bona fide rock gods (and Elton John) hang in the vast white marble lobby, practically begging for a cheesy selfie. I lingered over Prince’s Purple Rain ensemble and Blondie’s guitar, and found many excuses to wander past them during our stay.

Pool hangs with views where cares drift away

We loved the flexibility of two main outdoor pool options, with sun beds, loungers and cabanas. The ground-floor option keeps younger families happy, while the rooftop pool feels slightly sleeker, minus the ankle-deep toddler splash zone. Parents seem to love the roof too, drawn by its excellent tapas and sweeping views. From there and from our balcony we could see mountains on one side and the sea on the other, a backdrop that made even a quick dip feel luxuriously special.

The hotel does not just lean on its cool factor. The team goes all in on events, from Halloween parties to Easter Bunny raves, complete with costumes, energy and enough sweets to keep everyone buzzing. We loved the commitment, and it was nice to see my big kid giggling at various antics around the pool.

Eating is easy fun for families at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella

And then there’s the food. Sessions restaurant buffet serves up everything from freshly grilled fish and vibrant salads to indulgent desserts, ice cream and hearty Andalusian and British favourites. Eden Pool Club does everything from salads to burgers to fish dishes and Tomahawk steaks, and we loved the big nachos bowls.  GMT+1 is the lobby bar which does sandwiches, salads, and other bites. Suena Chido is the upmarket Mexican with a great cocktail list.

Why you should go

Hard Rock Hotel Marbella is great for kids of all ages, and the location is fantastic – a stroll away from Puerto Banús and its buzzy harbour, along a beach which we loved for sunrise walks. It’s smart without being too fancy, the kids’ entertainment keeps everyone happy, and the music – from tunes by the pool, to live sessions in the lobby, keeps the Hard Rock’s cool reputation perfectly intact.
