Or there’s the option to try something new and challenge yourselves, such as via ferrata for families with kids over eight.

Roughly translated as ‘iron roads’, these narrow paths and ledges, where you clip yourself via harness to a metal cable in the cliff face, were first introduced during WWI for soldiers to traverse steep mountains and move supplies. In summer, they’re a thrilling adventure with a bit of history thrown in, too.

Getting there is a doddle. Just y into Innsbruck Airport, Austria to begin your adventure. Pick up your hire car and head into Italy and the Dolomites. Travel through valleys and small villages before nding yourself in a luxury mountain lodge or hotel.

Book with Powder Byrne and everything is tailored to your family’s interests. There’s no standard itinerary; instead, Powder Byrne’s experts listen to your requests and design an itinerary just for you. The holiday was really, really great. Both hotels were fantastic, and so were both the mountain guide and cycling guide. We were very happy with the whole experience – it was a perfect family holiday. Thank you so much for organising everything – all elements were fantastic – activities, hotels and food – Mrs CJ
