Planning a family holiday is no small feat. Between keeping the kids entertained, finding somewhere parents can actually relax and hoping the sun shows up, the pressure to get it right is real. 68% of Brits are planning a trip in 2026, yet 44% of parents admit to returning to the same destinations year after year, simply to avoid the risk of something going wrong.
The good news? A new study from TUI has done the hard work for you. After analysing more than 150 European coastal destinations, scoring each on everything from theme parks and water parks to ice cream shops, aquariums, zoos and summer sunshine, they’ve ranked the continent’s most family-friendly spots.
Whether you’re after reliable heat, a packed activity schedule or simply a place where the kids can run free while you catch your breath, here’s where Europe’s best family holidays are waiting.

What makes a truly family-friendly destination?
TUI’s Ian Hill, who oversees the brand’s family hotel concepts, has a clear philosophy: “The best family holidays are the ones where everyone feels catered for – where children stay entertained and curious and parents don’t feel like they’re constantly problem-solving.”
His practical advice? Look at how many attractions are within walking distance, seek out destinations that are easy to navigate and prioritise places with shaded areas, playgrounds and family restaurants. “Having that mix means you can adapt each day depending on energy levels and weather,” he said – and any parent who’s ever had to pivot a day’s plans at short notice will know exactly what he means.
