A Cap Cana family holiday means long-ish flights with kids, but Eden Roc Cap Cana is such a wonderful family resort, Rochelle Streater would do the journey again in a heartbeat.

Rochelle and family, Eden Roc Cap Cana
The perfect start to our Cap Cana family holiday
We arrived at Eden Roc, Cap Cana in the evening, to be greeted immediately by staff, who seemed genuinely excited to welcome us.
Within a few minutes, Melvin, one of our butlers for the stay, was handing us ice-cold passionfruit cocktails (virgin for the children) that tasted like pure holiday. The warmth of those first moments set the tone for our entire holiday.
Eden Roc Cap Cana anticipates your every need
Before even seeing our villa, we were whisked straight to La Palapa, the resort’s beachfront restaurant. Sitting beside the water, eating rice and Dominican beef stew, I felt the stress of travel finally lift. The girls tucked into mini burgers and chips, only to fall asleep at the table mid-bite; which says everything about how much travel had caught up with them. Luckily, Melvin was on hand again, to drive us back to our villa in the golf cart we were given for our whole stay.

One bedroom villa, Eden Roc Cap Cana
A family villa with its own pool and garden is heavenly
We were in a one-bedroom villa with a private garden, its own pool and plenty of room for all of us. The bathrooms was stocked with Acqua di Parma toiletries and even came with little footstools so the girls could reach up to the double sinks by themselves. The villa also featured a large walk-in wardrobe, as well as an outdoor shower, and a mural that had been hand-painted by a local artist.
Combined with the high ceilings, stylish décor and airy layout, it felt more like borrowing a friend’s luxurious Caribbean home than checking into a resort. Bigger families than ours will also like the fact that some villas interconnect.

Getting about, Cap Cana family holiday
Eden Roc lets you shape your own Cap Cana family holiday
The next morning began at Blue, where the buffet and à la carte options are served against a backdrop of the turquoise ocean. The staff were as attentive as the food was varied, with tropical fruit, flaky pastries and made-to-order Dominican specialities. Watching the girls eat pancakes while staring at the sea felt like one of those “is this real life?” moments.
After breakfast we hopped into a bright yellow Moke (possibly the most photogenic way to get around Cap Cana) for a little exploring. We visited the local fish market, browsed some houses for sale (spot of daydreaming about a Caribbean life) and rounded things off with ice cream and a sunset walk along the private beach, which is calm and shallow enough for children to paddle safely.

Cana Koko Kids Club, Eden Roc
Surprise! Spanish lessons from the kids’ club parrot
One of the highlights of our stay was the on-site cenote: a natural sinkhole with clear, cool water that the kids thought was straight out of a fairy tale.
Afterwards, the girls couldn’t wait to try the kids’ club, especially because of Kiki, the club’s resident parrot. Not only is Kiki a hit with children, but he’s also fluent in Spanish, teaching them a word or two while keeping them entertained. The kids’ club caters to a wide range of ages, from toddlers through to tweens, with daily activities like kayaking crafts, cooking, movie nights and treasure hunts. Best of all, it’s included in your stay.

London making new friends, Eden Roc
There’s so much for kids to do on this Cap Cana family holiday
With the children happily occupied, we sneaked off to the spa for a massage. Then in the afternoon we lounged by our villa pool before heading to dinner at Mediterraneo, the resort’s flagship restaurant. Here, dinner became more than a meal, it was theatre. The chef prepared fresh pasta at our table, then carved roast chicken beside us. The food was flawless, but what stood out most was the sense of occasion.
Another day we borrowed bikes and cycled to the local stables. I’ve never seen such immaculate facilities, with fans, waterfalls and grooming stations that made it clear the horses are treated like royalty. The girls loved meeting the animals, each choosing a favourite and declaring it their new best friend. The ride back through Cap Cana was safe and tranquil, as the entire area is a private, gated community, roughly the size of Manhattan.

Beachfront villas, Eden Roc Cap Cana
Nothing is too much trouble for families at Eden Roc Cap Cana
No Cap Cana family holiday would be complete without a waterpark, and Eden Roc made that effortless too. On the day we decided to go to El Dorado in Cap Cana, Melvin was simply waiting in the lobby with towels, so we had nothing to think about apart from a day of pure joy, taking plenty of family photos that perfectly captured the laughter and sunshine.
What makes Eden Roc stand out isn’t just its setting, though Cap Cana’s beaches, coral reefs, and manicured streets are breathtaking, it’s the way the resort anticipates what families actually need, from child-sized slippers to golf carts. Even the restaurants were happy to adapt dishes for younger palates, without making us feel like an inconvenience.

Another perfect day, family holiday Cap Cana
This will be the first Cap Cana family holiday of many
Eden Roc also offers the flexibility to balance family time with grown-up relaxation. The kids’ club is genuinely engaging, not an afterthought, which means parents can enjoy a guilt-free spa session or bike ride, knowing their children are happily entertained.
On the final morning, our eldest daughter, London, actually cried as we packed and, waving goodbye to the staff, even I felt emotional. It’s rare for a resort to leave such a lasting impression on both parents and children, but Eden Roc is a very rare type of resort altogether.
