The lowdown
Why go? Located in the central Serengeti, The Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Tanzania, opened earlier this year. Designed in contemporary African style to complement its natural surroundings, the lodge has 60 rooms, 12 suites and five villas, all of which offer views of the plains. Guests can watch lions and elephants while brushing their teeth. The lodge also offers safari-light activities – the perfect introduction to game-spotting for children of eight and over.
Kids’ club: Its complimentary Kijana Club aims to educate children and teens on the African bush and its fascinating wildlife by working closely with the hotel’s Discovery Centre, which opened last month, and the researchers in the park.
Contribute first hand to conservation projects through activities such as the Serengeti Lion Project’s popular camera trapping campaign Snapshot Serengeti, which encourages families to identify animals captured through the hundreds of cameras set up around the park. There’s also the opportunity for children to set up their own recordings of animals and process the results themselves.
Arts and crafts, games and visits to the Maasai tribes, not to mention watching wild animals parade across the horizon will keep kids excited all holiday.
Prices: A Terrace Suite for a family of four costs from £1,018 per night. This includes three meals, all drinks (including house wines, local beers and spirits) and taxes – it does not include airport transfers or the Serengeti National Park fee of USD 60 per person, per day.
