Family-friendly Mozambique

Last updated 9th June 2017

The lowdown

Why go? Until recently, Mozambique was considered off-limits to anyone but the most seasoned travellers.

Today, it’s one of Africa’s rising stars, offering a dream combination of back-to-nature rustic safaris and beautiful beaches; plus some of its island lodges are becoming the most family-friendly in Africa.

Accommodation: A trailblazer in the country is Vamizi Island in the Quirimbas Archipelago, which has just launched four stunning private villas.

Each villa, set within three acres ofbeachfront forest, boasts five bedrooms, and sleeps between 14 and 16 people. All have pools, outdoor dining areas and numerous comfy corners to curl up in.

Activities: You’ll find a warm, calm, safe lagoon ideal for little ones, fishing trips, humpback whale- and dolphin-spotting, and snorkelling and diving for all.

More information: Costs start from £18,160 for a seven-night stay in a five-bedroom villa (01285 762218).
