If you’re looking for a fun family mini break, Katie Amps and her family can highly recommend Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire. Think one holiday park can’t tick all the boxes? Think again.

Family mini breaks can be tricky with our family dynamic. Having a three-year-old boy and a thirteen-year-old girl often makes it difficult to keep everyone happy and entertained. So on this getaway we decided to bring a friend for Ella to let her have a little independence and enjoy all of the activities for older children.

Tattershall Lakes is one of 11 UK holiday parks owned by Away Resorts. These award-winning holiday parks across England and Wales are wonderfully unique and offer fantastic facilities and entertainment. We headed there on a warm Monday morning in late August, with a jam-packed car and three kids in tow

If your kids love water, they’ll adore Tattershall Lakes

When we arrived at Tattershall Lakes, the first thing that impressed us was the beautiful setting. The park is laid out around 10 lakes so there’s plenty of water-based fun, from jet skis to fishing, swimming and pedalos.

The lakeside Lido, has little kid’s section as well as adults-only swimming. The water was a little chilly on the colder days, but our kids didn’t seem to mind. Plus, there were plenty of sunbeds, so we could keep watch from a distance. There’s also a lovely, warm indoor pool with an amazing splash zone for the younger kids – our youngest was in his element shooting spray guns at daddy.

Ronnie’s favourite place was the beach, where he made lots of little friends, some pretty impressive sandcastles and paddled in the water. That gave us the opportunity to have a drink and watch on from the loungers. When the sun was shining it was hard to tell if we were in Lincolnshire or the Costa Del Sol!

The girls decided to take on the Aquapark. And I felt slightly guilty sitting on the side-lines but couldn’t quite stomach the freezing cold lake. The Aqua Park includes climbing frames, sprung trampolines, monkey bars and balance beams, as well as a hamster wheel, blast bags, swings, slides, volleyball pitch, football pitch and much more.

A holiday park entirely themed round family entertainment

Aviation is the other theme here, thanks to the park’s proximity to RAF Coningsby. The airbase is only five-minutes’ drive away so our conversations were often interrupted by the roar of Typhoons and Spitfires flying low overhead. It was a little noisy, but also exciting and our three year old, Ronnie, loved watching the planes.

Tattershall Lakes’ huge entertainment area includes a bar and large dining areas. There’s also an outdoor play area for younger kids. And a great arcade keeps older ones busy and gets rid of your loose change.

We ate most evenings in the Propeller Bar, which was great for pasta and pizza. On warmer evenings we moved out to the balcony to enjoy the views across the lake and watch the evening entertainment on the big screen.

Need an easy family mini break? Tattershall Lakes has an app for that

Our home for the week was an indulgent Lakeside Lode, complete with hot tub and decking overlooking the lake. We had a ton of space and everything we needed to make ourselves at home! As well as a good-sized double bed in the master bedroom with storage area and ensuite, there were also two good sized twin rooms for the kids.

The Away Resorts App was a god-send for this slightly disorganised mum! It meant we could book all of our activities and restaurants online. And we could also plan our days in advance and make sure we experienced everything the park had to offer. We only had to remember to take our guest passes with us wherever we went and setting reminders on our phones helped with that!

Our break really was perfect in every way. Keeping a pre-schooler and a teenager happy is no mean feat but Tattershall Lakes really pulled it off.

A bit of background on Away Resorts

Founded in 2008, Away Resorts currently operates 11 holiday parks, spread across several beautiful UK destinations. They can be found in Lincolnshire, Isle of Wight, North Wales, New Forest, Hayling Island, Cornwall, and Essex.

Every park offers a different experience and makes the most of the surrounding area. Each provides a variety of accommodation options ranging from classic caravan getaways to exclusive Rockstar stays.  Plus, all accommodation options are dog friendly, and many also include private hot tubs.

All Away Resorts’ holiday parks are jam-packed with fantastic facilities. So you can look forward to on-site restaurants and bars, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, entertainment and much more. And it’s worth noting; the parks operate on a single price, per unit basis, instead of price per person. Good news if you want to add your children’s friends into a family mini break. And if you love the experience as much as we did, Away Resorts’ parks also offer holiday home ownership.
