Family days out

We took our kids to Ancient Egypt (without leaving London)

Rochelle Streater and her family discovered you don’t need to travel far to reach Ancient Egypt. Cleopatra: The Experience in London brings it to you.

We recently visited Cleopatra: The Experience in London with our two daughters and honestly had such a lovely family day out.

We decided to drive in and were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was. Parking was really close by along the riverside, which immediately made the day feel much less stressful with children in tow.

The experience itself was a really great mix of education and entertainment. There was loads for both adults and children to enjoy and it never felt too “museum-like” or overwhelming for younger kids. The storytelling and visuals kept everyone engaged throughout.

The standout part for us was definitely the VR room. The kids absolutely loved it and it added such an immersive, exciting element to the experience. What made it even better was that you weren’t just standing still wearing a headset, you could actually walk around the physical room while moving through the VR experience at the same time.

Being able to physically navigate the space while exploring Ancient Egypt virtually made it feel incredibly realistic and much more interactive than most VR experiences we’ve done before. It felt like stepping back in time and made the history come alive in a way children actually connect with.

What I also really liked was how easy it was to turn into a full London family day out. After the exhibition, we walked along the riverside and found plenty of nearby restaurants for dinner, which rounded the whole day off perfectly.

If you’re looking for something a little different to do in London with children, especially if you want a mix of fun and learning, I’d definitely recommend it. It felt educational without being boring, interactive without being chaotic, and was a really easy addition to a family day in the city.
