Where? Rode Hall Parkland, Cheshire
Line-up: Organised by a small not-for-profit organisation, Just So bills itself as a magical experience where art, music and literature come together in a wood fit for the wild things. Attractions are organized by age, making it easy to plan your programme. There’s music from The Quangos, The Polka Dot Golls and More Like Trees; art workshops such as lantern building and making clay faces; Bollywood dancing, and theatre acts.
Price: Weekend camping for adults is £95 and £40 for children. Day tickets have sold out on Saturday.
2/7 KidsFest
When? 10-11 August
Where? Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park, Essex
Line-up: Hold onto your hats as we reveal that Marsh Farm will have performances from Justin Beiber and One Direction… (tribute bands). Bob the Builder and Mister Maker will also be putting in appearances, alongside circus acts, workshops and vintage funfair rides.
Price: Day tickets are £21 per person for everyone over two, if you book in advance, or £25 on the gate.
3/7 Solfest
When? 23-25 August
Where? Tarnside Farm, Cumbria
Line-up: Solfest encourages all the family to come along, kids, parents and grandparents. There’s a dedicated children’s arena, healing garden, kite displays, teddy parachuting, fancy dress and music, including Maximo Park, Afro Celt Sound System, Krafty Kuts and festival favourites The Correspondents.
Price: Weekend tickets are £109 for adults, £70 for 12-16 year olds, £30 for 6-11 year olds and free for under fives.
4/7 Upton Music Festival
When? 23-25 August
Where? Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire
Line-up: Bringing a feel-good factor with eighties pop such as Bucks Fizz and Chesney Hawkes, and going even further back with Slade, The Troggs and The Wurzels, Upton is all about the sing-a-long. There’s also a family variety show and look out for Pat Sharpe’s guest appearance.
Price: Weekend tickets for adults are £70, 13-17 are £20, under 12s are free.
5/7 Croissant Neuf
When? 8-11 August
Where? Monmouthshire
Line-up: This solar-powered festival packs some serious green credentials with the music, theatre, games, circus acts and activities on offer all environmentally friendly. Learn to walk tightropes and throw diablos in the Big Top Mania, go welly-wanging at the Village Green Games, or dance to The Zen Hussies, Raven and Biggles Wartime Band.
Price: Weekend tickets for adults are £105, £60 for teens, £40 for children and under fives are free.
6/7 Camp Bestival
What? Camp Bestival
When? 1-4 August
Where? Lulworth Castle, Dorset.
Line-up: Multi-generational fun comes in the form of music from the likes of Richard Hawley, Labrinth, Mark Owen, Gabrielle Aplin and The Cuban brothers; comedy from Alan Davies; theatre from Horrible Histories, Mr Tumble and Dick n Dom. There’s also dance workshops, films, and a fancy dress parade.
Price: Weekend camping has sold outbut day tickets are still available, adults cost £60, 15 to 17 year olds are £35, 11-14 £30 and under 10s are free (but a ticket is still required).
7/7 Flipside Festival
What’s new? If heading to Brazil for the World Cup next year is a pipe dream, why not get your Latin kick this autumn instead – at Snape Maltings in Suffolk. Exactly a decade after Brazil launched FLIP – its hugely successful answer to the UK’s Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts in the beautiful beachside colonial town of Paraty – FLIP brings its winning formula to the UK, launching FlipSide, which takes place on 4-6 October.
Activities: While it has the impressive line up of literary heavyweights you’d expect – think the likes of Ian McEwan and award-winning Brazilian novelist Milton Hatoum – the Brazilian festival is also famous for its child-friendliness. FlipSide will be no exception, bringing with it an entire kids’ side to the festival called FlipKids. Expect Capoeira classes, art, drama and book making workshops, musical theatre from the brilliant Wonderful Beast and more.
