Samode Safari Lodge, Madhya Pradesh, India

Last updated 9th June 2017

The lowdown

Vibe: An elegant safari lodge with top-notch service, sublime food and 12 palatial villas.

Setting: Hidden in deepest central India, next door to Bandhavgarh National Park. There are sloth bears, leopards, panthers, wolves and gaur (Indian bison) to spot – and you might get lucky and find that elusive tiger.

Why parents love it: There’s nothing quite as exciting as a safari, and seeing it through the eyes of your kids is a treat. When you return from your drive, you can look forward to flower-strewn footbaths and a dip in the pool.

Why kids love it: Bumping through the jungle in an open-air jeep is a wonderful adventure.

Insider tip: If you’d like to add some culture to your tour, fly in or out of Khajuraho (five hours’ drive from the lodge), and stop to visit its world-famous temple complex.
