Royal Caribbean is raising the bar for family holidays at sea with the launch of Hero of the Seas, the fourth ship in its groundbreaking Icon Class.
Debuting in Miami in August 2027, the new ship promises more pools, more dining and more immersive experiences than ever before, combining beach retreats, resort escapes and theme park thrills.

What’s new for families onboard?
Families can dive into nine pools onboard – the most at sea – including family-friendly spaces, a new Caribbean-inspired pool, three adults-only options and the largest swim-up bars in the fleet. New highlights include Coconut Cove, an all-new pool near The Lime and Coconut with in-water loungers and poolside service. The adults-only Hideaway has been expanded to feature two pools, the largest swim-up bar at sea and an in-water DJ booth for a lively party atmosphere. Familiar favourites have also been refreshed, with more space at the Swim & Tonic pool and new water features at Splashaway Bay in the Surfside neighbourhood.
Adventure is a big focus onboard, with Category 6 – the largest waterpark at sea – introducing two new family raft slides, including the first funnel raft slide at sea, alongside new twists on the Storm Chasers mat-racing slides. Thrill-seekers can also take on Crown’s Edge, a skywalk and zip-line hybrid suspended 154 feet above the ocean or catch waves on the FlowRider surf simulator. For more family-friendly competition, there’s the Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall, Lost Dunes mini-golf course and a range of sports courts for pickleball, basketball and more.

What dining options are available?
Dining is equally impressive, with 28 venues offering a mix of new concepts and returning favourites. Highlights include the Orleans Parish Supper Club, a multi-course experience inspired by the early 20th-century elegance of the French Quarter, complete with live jazz, craft cocktails and gourmet Cajun and Creole dishes. Royal Railway – Hero Station brings one of the most immersive dining experiences at sea, transporting diners by train car to new destinations through a blend of food, entertainment and technology.
Families are firmly in focus, with the Surfside neighbourhood hosting hands-on cooking classes for all ages, from fun, simple recipes for younger guests to more advanced sessions. The AquaDome Market food hall also returns with four new stall concepts, alongside desserts at Crème de la Crêpe and fresh juices from Simply Pressed.
Across the ship, guests can enjoy fleet favourites including sushi at Izumi and Izumi in the Park, family-style Italian dishes at Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, premium steaks at Chops Grille and fresh seafood at Hooked. Casual, grab-and-go options are also plentiful, with Basecamp serving burgers and tater tots, El Loco Fresh offering Mexican favourites and Sorrento’s dishing up pizza throughout the day.

For a more elevated stay, Royal Loft Suites and Icon Loft Suites offer spacious layouts and sweeping ocean views, while Interior Plus and Sunset Suites provide comfortable accommodations for guests recharging for the next day of adventure.

Signature Icon Class favourites will return on Hero, from the Royal Promenade neighbourhood’s restaurants, bars, floor-to-ceiling ocean views and the jaw-dropping Pearl – the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture – to the open-air Central Park lined with more than 30,500 real plants, restaurants and pick-up windows for sushi, champagne and more. Plus, the boldest entertainment takes centre stage with new productions at the Royal Theater, the marquee AquaTheater and Absolute Zero – the largest ice arena at sea – along with spots for live music day and night.
“Icon Class truly set a new standard for family vacations and Hero of the Seas takes that vision even further,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean. “With more water, more thrills and more choices for all ages, we’re continuing to build on what our guests love about Royal Caribbean and delivering the experiences families are looking for when vacationing together.”
Hero of the Seas will sail seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami, with every sailing including a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay.
