Norwegian Cruise Line unveils new family experiences on largest ship ever, Norwegian Aura

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has revealed full details of Norwegian Aura, its newest and largest ship, ahead of her first sailing in May 2027. Alongside a raft of new dining and wellness spaces, the ship brings a reimagined outdoor zone built specifically for families, with more slides, more climbing and more places for parents to relax while the kids play.

Norwegian Aura sets sail on 21 May 2027 with a seven-day Mediterranean maiden voyage from Trieste to Barcelona, before repositioning to Miami for Caribbean sailings your family can book from summer 2027.

From a brand-new activity hub to more space at the venues families already love, here’s the latest on what your family can expect onboard.

Norwegian Aura Ocean Heights

Ocean Heights, the new family activity hub

The headline addition for families is Ocean Heights, a sprawling outdoor zone that combines new attractions with returning favourites. There are six slides to keep kids busy, an 82-foot ropes course and a multi-level obstacle course for older children, plus the Moon Climber and Aura Midway, which brings carnival-style games and a nine-hole mini golf course to the deck.

For parents who want to keep an eye on the action while getting a moment to themselves, Ocean Heights also introduces NCL’s first overhanging cabanas, positioned above Vibe Beach Club with their own dedicated bar. It means you can watch the kids from your own private spot without giving up your holiday downtime.

Norwegian Aura The Panorama Room

More room at the family-friendly restaurants

Norwegian Aura’s dining venues have also been redesigned with more space and easier movement between them. The complimentary Indulge Food Hall returns with nine globally inspired stations, including complimentary Mexican dishes inspired by Los Lobos and a new Middle Eastern concept, alongside returning favourites like Q Texas Smokehouse and Nudls, so there’s something for even the fussiest eater. The Local Bar & Grill offers another no-extra-cost option, serving pub classics through most of the day.

Also new to the ship is The Panorama Room, a complimentary dining room that uses floor-to-ceiling LED displays and shifting lighting to move guests through changing landscapes as they eat.

For families who fancy a special night out, Tamara brings Indian cuisine to the ship for the first time, with tableside dishes like a Short-Rib Dosa and a Green Papaya Salad served in a striking setting built around open-view tandoor ovens.

Norwegian Aura Mandara Spa

A grown-up retreat while the kids are entertained

With the children settled at Ocean Heights, parents have a serious wellness space of their own to escape to. Spanning two decks, the Mandara Spa’s Thermal Suite is the most expansive NCL has built, with 15 experiences including a 360-degree Sensory Rain Pool, a Snow Cave and guided hot and cold plunge pools, giving you every excuse to book a slot while the kids are off climbing, sliding or splashing about.

Families staying in The Haven, NCL’s suite complex, will also find a newly designed Haven Restaurant and Lounge, giving multigenerational groups a quieter space of their own to gather.

Norwegian Aura Main Pool

Where families can sail on Norwegian Aura

After her Mediterranean debut, Norwegian Aura heads to Miami for seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailings through summer 2027 and 2028, calling at family-favourite stops including NCL’s private island Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.

Over winter 2027/28, she switches to week-long Western Caribbean itineraries, including a call at Harvest Caye, NCL’s private destination off Belize, both well suited to families who want a mix of ship time and beach days.
