The second largest of the Channel Islands, you’ll find Guernsey just off the coast of Normandy. In fact, it’s closer to France than the UK, but essentially its own very lovely self. If you’ve heard the beaches here compared to the Caribbean, you won’t be disappointed in their white sands and clear waters. Plus, on Guernsey beaches, kids can go surfing and try paddleboarding and kayaking. Coasteering and wild swimming are tremendously exciting for teens, and even winter beach walks are great fun.
On the subject of walks, the countryside in Guernsey is also a delight, and kids will be happy to stride out, particularly on the promise of wildlife spotting. However, it’s pretty St Peter Port which charms everyone with its friendly atmosphere, interesting shops and famously good restaurants. And all that’s before we mention Guernsey’s history, which runs from exploring the house where Victor Hugo wrote Les Misérables to discovering megalithic burial chambers.
