Golf is another local legend, with no fewer than 10 championship courses in play in and around the Tampa Bay area, complete with alluring views and clear blue skies. If Major League Baseball is your thing, you can catch the Tampa Bay Rays on home territory at Tropicana Field. From October to April, see Tampa Bay Lightning on the ice at Amalie Arena in Downtown Tampa. You’re also right at the heart of the Gulf Coast in Tampa Bay, so some of the state’s best beaches are only 30 minutes away. The gleaming Hillsborough River is the place for more watersports, from paddleboarding to jet-skiing.
Alternatively, hit the Tampa Riverwalk, which you can walk, of course, but biking or running are encouraged, too. And for those times when all you want to do is scream as loud as you can, Tampa Bay gives you Busch Gardens, home of the Iron Gwazi, Cobra’s Curse and, opening soon, Phoenix Rising, rollercoasters all as thrilling as they sound. Catching your breath is fun here, too, and nowhere proves that point better than The Florida Aquarium, where you can even take a dolphin cruise.
Glazer Children’s Museum is another great breathing space, especially for younger kids. If you’re travelling with teens and you haven’t worn them out with rollercoasters, it’s time to try the sensational ziplines over Mobbly Bayou Wilderness Preserve.
