Rhodes’ sunshine and stunning views mean families want to spend a lot of time on the coast. Here’s our pick of the best Rhodes family beaches to help you find your place in the sun.

Agia Agathi, east Rhodes
Agia Agathi: the castaway beach for lazy days in the sun
Almost hidden away, Agia Agathi has all the feel of a secret beach without any of the effort. It’s only 20 minutes north of Lindos, and closer still to the village of Charaki. Sensational good looks are a big part of its appeal, but families with younger kids will like the calm, shallow seas here, as well as the soft, golden sand.
This one is a favorite with local families, and that’s the best recommendation.
Where: about 15 miles north of Lindos and 2 miles from Charaki for shops and tavernas
Family friendly: best for younger kids and pre-schoolers, not much for teenagers
Beach facilities: sunbed hire, restrooms, beach bar

Prasonisi, best Rhodes family beaches
Prasonisi: one of the best Rhodes family beaches for views
Not just one of the most best Rhodes family beaches, Prasonisi easily competes with many of the greatest beaches in Greece. It’s an isthmus of sand that’s revealed at low tide, but things here get really phenomenal when you realise that Prasonisi’s golden sands are a meeting point for the Aegean and Mediterranean: one of the reasons it’s a photographer’s favorite.
The dynamic nature of Prasonisi also means the waters are famously clear, add that to its position on the southerly tip of Rhodes, and you know why it’s a magnet for wind sport lovers. Always fun to watch even if you don’t wind or kite surf yourself, but should you want to give it a go, equipment rental and lessons are available.
Where: about 5 miles south of Kattavia village for tavernas and cafés
Family friendly: good for all ages, just remember to bring shade for younger kids
Beach facilities: there are few facilities for families here, so come prepared

Lardos Beach, Rhodes
Lardos Beach: one of the best Rhodes family beaches for younger kids
Set on the sheltered southeast coast of Rhodes, Lardos Beach gives you that classic Greek combination of incredible scenery and lots of space to yourself. We also like its natural charm: low on development and big on beauty. A mix of sand and pebbles make the shoreline easy under kids’ feet and there’s a gentle entry into the sea here too, so it’s perfect for tiny water babies.
The beach might be happily left to nature, but it also has a Blue Flag which means you’ll find good facilities here. There’s also a beach bar and watersports are available too. If you want more, the nearby village of Lardos comes good on family-run tavernas and friendly cafés, along with pretty, whitewashed houses to admire.
Where: about 2 miles south of Lardos village and miles west of Lindos village.
Family friendly: good for all ages with watersports for older kids and shallow seas for pre-schoolers
Beach facilities: Lifeguards in summer, as well as a beach bar, sunbed hire, showers and restrooms

Anthony Quinn Bay, one of the best Rhodes family beaches for snorkelling
Anthony Quinn Bay: the perfect cove for snorkelling
No round up of Rhode’s best beaches is complete without a mention of Anthony Quinn Bay. On an island with over 50 beaches, the majority of which fly a Blue Flag, Anthony Quinn is generally considered to be one of the loveliest of all.
It’s a small cove, sheltered by golden cliffs, and much loved by snorkelers. If you’re up for a bit more exercise, it’s also a great beach to visit on a kayaking tour, which also means you don’t need to think about parking in summer when it’s tricky to find nearby.
Where: about 12 miles south of Rhodes Town and 2 miles south of Faliraki for shops and restaurants
Family friendly: best for over-eights and teenagers who like to get underwater
Beach facilities: small beach bar, sunbeds for hire and restrooms nearby

Tsambika Beach, Rhodes
Tsambika Beach: the beach families love best in Rhodes
Possibly the best loved of all Rhodes family beaches, Tsambika sits between Lindos and Falariki, again on the sheltered east coast.
Long, with soft sands and clean, clear water, the beach might be popular but it never feels over-busy and you’ll always find space to spread out and play – it’s great sandcastle building territory.
Shallow seas for quite a distance are great for families with younger kids or nervous swimmers. A little playground is also a big hit with pre-schoolers. Although access to watersports mean teenagers will be just as happy here. Also, it’s very easy to get to from the road, and there’s parking.
Where: about 2 miles south of Kolimpia for shops, cafés and family restaurants
Family friendly: great for all ages from sandcastle builders to teenagers
Beach facilities: beach bars and cafés, restrooms, showers, watersports and sunbed rental

Kiotari, one of the best Rhodes family beaches for lazy days
Kiotari: one of the best Rhodes family beaches in the southeast
Kiotari is another of the best Rhodes family beaches on the southeast coast that’s best for lazy days when you just want to take a holiday breather.
Long with a mix of find sand and pebbles it’s never crowded, and while you can rent sunbeds here and watersports are available too, everything is spaced out, so the beach has an almost resort-like atmosphere. Naturally, the backdrop of mountains add to that sense of exclusivity and nearby Kiotari village is known for good restaurants with gorgeous sea views.
Where: steps away from Kiotari village on the southeast coast
Family friendly: peaceful beach, good for kids of all ages
Beach facilities: no restrooms or showers, sunbed rental and watersports available.

Ixia Beach, one of the best Rhodes family beaches near Rhodes Town
Ixia Beach: one of the best Rhodes family beaches for fun
With Rhodes Town just a few miles away, Ixia Beach is understandably one of the island’s top choices for families. By complete contrast to the beaches in the southeast, this northwest beauty has lots going on, and works really well for older kids. It’s one of the best Rhodes family beaches for water sports, particularly the wind-driven type, and there are several places that provide equipment hire and lessons.
That said, because Ixia is really a series of smaller, linked beaches you’ll always find a quiet spot that isn’t thronging with people, so younger kids will feel comfortable here too. It’s also a favorite for stunning sunsets and the sea views are truly spectacular. Plus, almost the entire length is lined with cafés and restaurants, so you don’t need to over-prep, even if you plan to stay a full day.
Where: around 3 miles from UNESCO World Heritage Rhodes Town
Family friendly: classic urban beach with lots happening, plenty of places to eat and a fun vibe
Beach facilities: lifeguards, restrooms, showers, watersports equipment and sunbed hire

Glystra, one of the best Rhodes family beaches for shallow seas
Glystra Beach: a little gem between Kiotari and Lardos
Tucked between Kiotari and Lardos Beach on the southeast coast, gorgeous little Glystra is a gem you don’t want to overlook. Sandy and cove-like with shallow seas, it’s also a bit of find for keen young snorkelers as the waters are ridiculously transparent. This is quite simply a beach-beach, but all the lovelier for it.
Just remember to pack well if you don’t want to move off the sands because, apart from sunbed hire, there really isn’t much here apart from extreme prettiness and perfect views.
Where: about 4 miles east of Kiotari for family restaurants and cafés
Family friendly: best for younger kids and under-12s
Beach facilities: restrooms and sunbed hire, no lifeguards
