The Great Montreal Christmas Market
It’s not saying it out loud, but there’s no doubt that The Great Montreal Christmas Market is determined to convince you that it’s about the mid-1800s and you’re in a charming wintery village, probably somewhere in Austria, we’re guessing. Or it could be Strasbourg. Anyway, the imaginary location doesn’t matter, it’s the thought that counts and a lot of thought has gone into recreating a little Europe on Jeanne Mance Street this November and December.
Why go: 40 quaint chalets peopled with local artisans peddling their wares, this we love!

The Québec City German Christmas Market
Another one that’s big on nostalgia, it’s probably fair to say The Québec City German Christmas Market doesn’t have to try too hard since it’s right in the heart of Old Québec and if that’s not captivatingly Christmassy enough for you, have you checked your Grinch Levels recently?
Why go: Château de Noël, ice skating, more than 90 gift stalls and it’s all free.
When: 17 November to 30 December

The Distillery Winter Village, Toronto
It’s kind of a given that the Distillery District in Toronto is going to go all out on shopping, but where the Winter Village really scores this year is on pure, unadulterated festive feels. Launching the spirit on 13 November with the tree lighting ceremony – 56ft of ridiculously bushy Silver Fir – before going full kid-heaven on everything from meet n greets with Santa to wandering elves, 7ft tall Snow People and a Singing Wall (not quite sure what that is, but keen to find out).
Why go: cute elves strolling cobblestone streets and dozens of ready-made TikTok opps.

Banff Christmas Market
One-of-a-kind gifts, the magical mountain setting and a whole heap of other festive events, definitely give Banff Christmas Market a more-than vibe. And there might be more than a hint of Europe in the traditions, but look out for Rocky Mountains artisans making it very much their own.
Why go: natural enchantment and the type of gifts you want to keep all to yourself.

Vancouver Christmas Market
This year’s Vancouver brief was clearly, ‘make everyone overjoyed’ since their Christmas Market has a no-holds-barred approach to fun from festive karaoke and quiz challenges to cute as a button St. Nikolaus encounters for kids. Grab a fresh baked pretzel and a mug of warm cider and shop, shop, shop is the message on the gift buying front. And leave time for at least one ride on the Aeroplan Holiday Carousel, it’s so glittery.
Why go: free carousel rides, festive games, dazzling light displays and Yuletide carolers.

Ottawa Marché de Noël
Oh how we love a Christmas Market that gets kids all hands on with Santa craft workshops – you know what you’re getting in your stocking this year! Not content with keeping little elves busy, Ottawa has also extended the festivities into January. And the holiday light show is worth a visit all by itself.
Why go: workshops for kids, 50+ gift stalls, snow on the rooftops.
