Taking the Kids Skiing by Rail

Last updated 3rd January 2017

Daniel Elkan gives the lowdown on taking trains to ski holidays.

Flying with a family can be quite a hassle and frustrating these days, but ski trips in continental Europe make for brilliant family holidays. How can a family reach a ski resort by train?

A:

One of the inspiring things about travelling to ski resorts by train is witnessing the happy families on board. Clearly, children enjoy the experience and there are plenty of resorts that can be reached by daytime or overnight journeys from the UK. Little Sainte Foy is a gem, with quiet slopes that make it a wonderful place to learn – and it is only 20 minutes from Bourg St Maurice station. Montgenèvre in France has a fabulous beginners’ area that sweeps onto the village and the resort also offers a scenic daytime journey to Oulx station, just 30 minutes away.
